Just watched it. Some thoughts…

Let me say first, I thought this was a decent enough sequel, and had some good suspense and scares.

and I know people are generally supposed to be morons in horror films, BUT…Haddonfield is full of idiots.

***spoilers ahead***

Lonnie taking his son and his son’s girlfriend to the Myers house, knowing Michael is in there, and then telling them both to stay in the car so he can go in??? My god, the dumbest thing I think I’ve ever seen. You alert the mob and the police force that you are sure he is in the house, then you stay the hell away.

The dumb ass mob stopped beating on Michael at the end, knowing he has survived damn near everything at this point. You don’t stop until he is mush. Nobody blew his head to pieces with a gun. They just sort of let him be, after all their rage at him the whole film. At some point you almost want to root for Michael to put these idiots out of their misery.

Also…

I’m getting sick of these “nostalgia” movies bringing back characters from the original films just to kill them off. So none of these people left Haddonfield and had an enjoyable life? Instead they just get cut down like nothing so Michael Myers can get his payback after 40 years? People like Sheriff Brackett should have had his hospital scenes and then not been shown again. Same with the nurse from the original film.

As for the ending. It was shocking and creepy, but how the hell did he get into the room? Did he kill everyone in front of the house first? Because the daughter and a ton of cops were outside the house. Unless I guess he snuck in the back door. Just seemed a little ridiculous. I’m just getting sick of the coming back to life stuff at this point. At this point you have to mulch Michael Myers body and send the mulch to different parts of the world and bury it at sea for him to be gone.

Lastly, and I’m probably in the minority, but I had no problem with Anthony Michael Hall. I thought it was a pretty well acted film for a slasher movie, though some of the dialogue could have been better. You can only say “evil dies tonight” so much until it gets ridiculous.

So, other than those gripes. It wasn’t too bad. Better than a lot of horror sequels.

Totally agree with you.. especially at the end, where the mob just "lets him off."

They should have beaten his head until mush. Or someone should have brought and axe and chopped his hands and head off, and then burn all his body parts into ashes.

Geez, what a stupid mob.

I lowered my standards/expectations for the film after he killed all those firefighters singlehandedly.

Too bad they weren’t female firefighters! They would have fared a bit better probably.

I’m in the same boat, and I agree with just about everything you had to say.

I put the brain away, and just took it in as a straight slasher. It certainly isn’t “boring”, and there’s an impressive kill count in the movie.

But….at the end, it couldn’t escape me how much the characters in the movie aggressively had no sense of self-preservation. It’s like everyone in the movie secretly had a death wish, and made every decision possible to put themselves in an active position to die.

I think the movie was entertaining and bloody, but also really dumb if you try to analyze it as anything more than a slasher….like most 80s slashers, which I weirdly have a soft heart for 😆

I think it works fine as a straight 80s-inspired slasher, but I’d laugh at the idea of propping this up as anything more than that. I do think it’s competently directed/shot, but it doesn’t elevate the IP in a way that I think it was aiming for.

And, yes, the repetition of “evil dies tonight” was comically forced. It just about gave me the idea that it was intentionally implemented as a comedic device.

well what did you expect?

the town folk and the cops in the Halloween movies have always been dumb all the way from the stupid bozo cops in Halloween 5 to Sheriff Bracket and the Jeff Daniels look alike deputy in Halloween 2.

all of them have always been morons
