bombing with INSANELY low estimated 3.3m opening wkend!

wow this is a huge bomb (sounds well deserved from what i read about it lol)

Fame is fleeting. Especially for movies about making movies these days.

Paramount’s $80M opus, BABYLON, took it on the chin Friday, earning just $1.4M (including Thursday previews) with the studio estimating a weekend debut of just $3.3M.

The trailer really didn't sell it well. Seems like a boring mess of a movie based on it.

The ads were so bizzare idk what it was trying to be. Seems like it has a pretty limited audience especially around the holidays.

Climate Disruption! https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/avatar-2-box-office-battles-storm-elliott-1235287265/

The bomb cyclone has brought freezing temperatures, high winds, snow and ice to a wide swath of the country. Traditionally, the Christmas corridor is one of the most lucrative times of the year for Hollywood studios and theater owners. This year is an exception, between Storm Elliott and ongoing concerns about COVID-19, the flu and the RSV virus.

Paramount’s star-packed Babylon, which received a C+ CinemaScore, is looking like a major disappointment unless it rebounds next week. The movie, which runs north of three hours — similar to Avatar 2 — opened to $1.5 million from 3,343 theaters on Friday for a projected four-day debut of $5 million.

It's all came together for this film to flop;
- It's over 3 hours long and an explicit R-rated period piece at that. It was always likely to flop given the high budget.
- Weak marketing. The film is basically a bunch of big names in a weird 'critic bait' film about Hollywood. What else can be said about it? Why would anyone want to see this on the 'big screen'?
- Competing with Avatar 2.
- Releasing so close to Christmas. Families have films like A2, BP:WF and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish to choose from.
- Horrid weather in many parts of the North America.

Will be interesting to see how much money it loses in the end.

You listed all the issues with this movie.

Well the profit from Top Gun Maverick will cover the losses on this movie.

the reviews were not that bad, but can see why it bombed, do general audiences want to see wild sex parties and people doing coke?

reply
