Can't believe Whitney Houston bio is doing better at box office

It's also long at 2.5hr. Half the Imdb votes, lower critic and audience ratings.
Projected 4-day $6.5m for Babylon, $9m for Whitney. Puss n Boots 17m because it's PG.

Black people are more interested in crappy Bio Pics than white people are interested in Oscar contender films.

Conclusion, I only trust Latin Americans these days.

reply

Exactly wrong. More accurate conclusion: You're an idiot.

reply

This is a factual statement, Oscar contenders are tanking at the box office, whites are the majority of their target audience.

Biopics are performing quite well at the box office, mostly because blacks are supporting their own kind.

These are facts that cannot be argued.

reply

Haha, very funny comment.

The audience for Whitney Houston bio is 2/3 female and 1/2 over 40. Black and white peoples are equal at 38%.
Audience for Babylon is mostly on west (left) coast and north east big cities. Mostly whitey.

reply

Blacks and whites shouldn’t be equal because blacks are a minority. This just proves my point that Black People do a better job of supporting black films than white people do of supporting white films, especially Oscar whitey films.

Both movies have bloated running times but at least Brad Pitt knows how to act, no name jobber actress playing Whitney Houston looks and sounds nothing like Whitney Houston.

Can someone explain? Is the 17M a good number for Puss In Boots, or is it disappointing?

reply

Terrible for domestic... but this type of movie is going to make a good amount of money overseas... it will bring a good profit from the international markets. Also the budget for this one was considerably smaller than the original spinoff that came out over a decade ago.

I doubt a Whitney Houston biopic or a movie about 1920s Hollywood will either one be a success internationally.

reply

I just checked and the budget for Puss In Boots was 90 million + marketing. I hope it will at least break even, it was a genuinely good movie.

reply

It will be very profitable due to international markets.

There's also no other kids movies for several months domestically so it will probably have small drops.

reply

Amazing. Thank you :)

reply

As of this past weekend Puss In Boots has more than doubled its production budget worldwide... it will keep dominating kids/family market for several months.

reply

Does this mean an eventual sequel is in the cards? They were heavily hinting at it with that ending.

reply

I haven't seen either one yet... but the Whitney Houston biopic looks cheap (I have no idea of the budget), but the trailer looks like direct to streaming material.

Babylon at least looks better and more cinematic... but who does it appeal to? The trailers are so fast paced - it has some actors-producers in the 1920s having "fun" but what is it actually about?

reply

> but what is it actually about?

This is the issue. I read multiple reviews of Babylon and I still don't know.

reply

I have no interest in this movie but lets be real its a 3 hour r rated movie relased on December. The ads are so bizarre idk what the movie is trying to be. Almost looks like that other Robbie Movie that came out this year

reply

The actual 4-day was much less because of Boob Cyclone. However, people who were stuck at home will watch Tue/Wed or New Year long weekend.

PnP 12.4m, WH 4.8m, Babylon 3.6m. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/2022W51/occasion/us_christmas_weekend/
