How it is compared to "Rome"?
"Rome" is probably so far the best american series about Ancient Rome. How is this compared to that show?

shareWatched two episodes, so far it's worse. Rome 10/10, this is about 8/10. Maybe I'm generous, because I like movies about ancient Rome and casting is good.
shareDo you means HBO’s Rome in 2005? Which was actually British-American. Because this was the greatest story about Ancient Rome. If I can remember, most of the cast was British.
shareYes,that one! I guess we can also consider it half-italian production too as it was filmed in the city of Rome. But yeah most of the cast was british, thats true.
shareYes - of course, Italian. They built an entire set for Ancient Rome in Rome which they dismantled when they ended the series, which btw was very costly. If they had more viewers, this beautiful series would have gone on longer. I loved that they told the historical parts with historical figures through the eyes of the two foot soldiers who did exist in name. Those two guys, so different in personality, but true soldiers - just one of the best ways to tell a story. When I finally did go to Rome - and I am going again this year - I just could not believe how big the coliseum actually is and how vast the area is around it. The aqueducts - I am glad you saw this great series because not many ever talk about it. And soooo much better than Gladiator.
shareHave you watched the series "Domina"? Its nice too
shareFunny how all the high-class Romans in this had British accents, and all the plebian Romans had Italian accents! ;-)
shareRome is far better, tho this was a fair effort. I found it got weak in the last couple of episodes but for the most part enjoyable.
I've watched Rome 4 or 5 times now (bought it on Blueray years ago and I love it every time), but I wouldn't bother watching this again.
I liked Rome, and look back on it fondly.
Those About To Die was looking back, too gruesome and inhuman.
I hope they do not do another season of it. It was revolting.
Neither series paid much attention to history, and though the
special effects were very good I wish I had not watched it.
Rome was sort of a sentimental look back on the Roman Empire,
a story most of us know, but TATD was so loosely based on
anything, and the plot so dark and deliberately horrible I don't
think I would tell anyone it was worth watching.
If you remember Ramsay Bolton from Games Of Thrones,
Those About To Die is like all the scenes with him in it without
anything else. If that is how history was - it is best forgotten.
"If that is how history was - it is best forgotten."
You think human history was all about rainbows and roses? No, it was mostly gruesome, violent, perverted and disgusting....and still is.
The only bad thing about this show was the cheap CGI. The story was entertaining and pretty accurate and the actors were all fantastic, especially the one who played Domitian.
