It's never explained why you would need to "hear" a tornado coming at you with the mom's macguffin device.

Skeet Ulrich is barely in the movie he only shows up in the beginning and thats it. Yet he gets top billing for a direct to video movie that tries to be the next Twister movie

The hearing device made no sense to me. You can hear tornadoes coming anyways. Anyone who’s be around a tornado knows they’re ear blisteringly loud.
