Autobot Twins racist i dont see it!

Ok I the movies and I actually liked the Twins what i dont get is all this talk about them being racist. Will someone explain to me how are racist?

reply

It's becuase they've been accused of being negative stereotypes of black people. IMHO, I didn't find them to be racist, if anything I looked at them as being two dumb guys trying to be "hip" and failing miserably every step of the way. The only real issue I had with them is that they contribute almost nothing to the plot and story and could've easily been cut out.

...Doh!

About the "reading" thing. It seems that forgets that Bumblebee can't read the exact same thing, and the same happens to whelie later in the movie.

Let's imagine an example: In a movie a character has something in latin, and asks another one to read it. He says he can't read that. Would that imply that he is a dumb illiterate? Would that imply that his social/ethnic/whatever group are dumb illiterates?

reply

If they said that they couldn't read ancient Cybertronian, that would be one thing. The line "We don't do much readin'." implies that they can't read anything.

No, you INFER that they CAN'T read anything.

All the movie implies is exactly what they say, that they don't do much reading.

C'mon, do they really seem like they WOULD do much reading?

People think they're racist for a couple of reasons:

1) The media says they're racist.

2) They are meant to appeal to a certain type of people; a group of which the studio sought more money they felt they could exploit...people with a sense of humor.

What people who cry racism are doing are doing nothing more than assuming everyone should be like a typical white person from either New York or L.A.. They don't know what "racist" is, not only do they literally mis-use the word, but they are just assuming anything that the media machine says for revenue is the truth without understanding anything-they don't know why they're calling "racist" but they do know they're going to say things like "that's a gold tooth". But more to the point they just want to complain about Michael Bay even though they just keep seeing his movies and keep blaming their younger brothers for dragging them to the movie.

Ask any Bay hater and they'll say they don't pay for it.

If you pirate media, you don't get to have an opinion on it.

Okay sure, I don't jump immediately to racist, but I don't think they're funny. There, I'm not belittling anyone or calling them dumb, I just think that these two are not funny.

Ugh, both Transformers movies are full of the worst, lowest, crassest stereotypes possible. None of the characters are fully fleshed out at all, and they all come across as complete, incompetent idiots. I think what bothered me the most was seeing actors of higher caliber like Jon Voight and John Turturro turned into pathetic caricatures. Not that Shia Le Beouf or Megan Fox could sink any lower, so no loss there. Bay's idea of humor is to pander to the lowest common denominator, to scrape the bottom of the barrel.

reply

Basicly, if you find it racist you are yourself a racist.

That's the theory. You see two dumb robots talking slang who can't read, and one of them has a gold tooth? The first thing that goes through my head is "WTF?" followed by "They must be gangsta, or gangsta-wannabe" but people who see it and go "Oh ma gerd! That's racist! The black people in the audience must be so offended!" are racist jello-spined fools.

reply

I find it sad that most of the posts defending the movie in this thread are full of mistakes and hard to read. Just more confirmation that the saddest part about Mudflap and "Skids" is that they make up the audience.

reply

Sadly I do; "Do you want me to put a cap in his ass" said in an African American voice is definitely racist and the writers and Bay must be aware of this, the characters are intended for laughs but come off as dumb, annoying and offensive. Good job Bay.

If you don't see it, there is no use explaining it to you..You will never understand.

reply

They are voiced by a white guy and a black guy. One of the characters even sound like a wigga, I don't remember which but I'd assume it was Skids (Tom Kenny).

At most, they are stereotypes of gangsta wannabes (They don't seem like actual thugs since they are pretty dorky).

I'm getting plenty tired of asinine casting suggestions. Stop polluting my mind, people.

I was a 14 year old when I watched this and I absolutely enjoyed it! I never really noticed any racial stereotyping from those dudes, just stupidity.
