Better than Dwayne Johnson version

Sorry but this film is better than the newer "Hercules" film with "The Rock."

The Rock's Hercules movie first weekend gross: 29,800,263. Lutz's Hercules lifetime total: 18,848,538. Info obtained from Box Office Mojo. Have a nice day!

Really? Wow, I had no idea that the quality of a film is judged by how much CASH it rakes in at the box office. Thanks for letting me know. Because we all know how discerning American audiences are, and what FINE taste they have in entertainment. So I guess that means small, indie masterpieces are actually GARBAGE because they don't make bank at the box office, huh? Of course, I will stick to my own opinion, because I have taste; and even though this abortion of a film grossed 29,800,263 doesn't show how great a film it is, but rather how stupid Americans are and how easy it is to trick you out of your money. So YOU have a nice day, hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. A Samoan Hercules; Hahahahahahaha..it should have been billed as a comedy..

And you're using this mind=numbingly boring, cliche'd piece of crap to defend box office numbers? No one went to see this because it was like Gladiator watered down to a trickle, with yawnworthy characters and barely a plot to hang itself with. We couldn't get thru the whole movie.

Dwayne Johnson is fun, and that movie is entertaining as hell.

reply

It comes down to personal taste i guess. I didn't find one second of "Legend of Hercules" boring. I loved the beautiful look of the film and it had a fantastic soundtrack. I loved the way it was filmed with such a serious tone. I haven't seen this done in a while. It seems like every fantasy or action movie these days, needs to be laced with silly humor or one-liners. I'm so sick of that. I walked out of "Thor 2" for that reason; i couldn't sit through it. I'm mostly into foreign film and smaller indie films. I like Kurosawa and Shuji Terayama, and other directors known to place style over substance. When i see a film i want to escape into a beautiful fantasy world; i don't want to be clobbered over the head with explosions and CGI. Once again, it's really just personal taste.

HERCULES with the Rock is currently in the top five box office films this week, and it just came out. I saw it, and it was actually pretty good---it didn't have a whole lot of CGI, which I really appreciated. Never even heard of THE LEGEND OF HERCULES--why wasn't it promoted?

reply

It's a good question. I'm not sure why "Legend of Hercules" wasn't really advertised so much. It just kind of came and went rather quickly. I'm not saying "Hercules" (Dwayne Johnson) is a bad movie, but rather I just preferred the style in which 'Legend' was filmed; it had a more classic/old school feel to it.

A quick look at rt would indicate most people do not share your opinion, herc 62/61, legend 3/35. Now I'd be the first to say that taste in movies, like food, is entirely subjective. Where I get terribly conflicted is when someone comes along and tries to argue that poop sandwiches are better than a grilled cheese.

No, no it isn't.

reply

Most people don't share my opinion, you say? Well thank you..you made my day. it's nice to hear that i don't think like the mainstream masses that like whatever is trendy and making money at the box office. i mean i know this about myself already, but it's nice when somebody else recognizes that quality in me. Cheers.

As I alluded to earlier, if you find yourself defending the taste of a poop sandwich, it might be time to push away from the table and start asking yourself some hard questions.

I feel I could offer a pretty solid argument that taste despite it's subjective nature does actually transition into the objective when taken to the extreme.

But if I expend that much effort, even if based on an irreverent tangent, because of either of these movies then I fell like the terrorists win or something.

In all fairness legend isn't a poop sandwich, that could kill you. It's more like sawdust, bland, no flavour.

reply

"Sawdust, bland, no flavor..." kind of like your weak attempts at wit. But judging by your use of the term "poop sandwich" I am assuming your 12 years old so I will avoid being mean to you. But if you really want to know what a "poop sandwich" is, try watching "Thor 2: The Dark World." Compared to that cinematic abortion, "Legend of Hercules" looks like a masterpiece.

I am indulging in an inane argument over which of two crappy movies is the least bad, don't expect my 'A' game. Besides, the analogy was meant to be more literal than amusing.
But judging by your use of the term "poop sandwich" I am assuming your 12 years old so I will avoid being mean to you.

I wield my vulgarity like a boss in a manga, I typically reveal it at the end of the second act to emphasize the antagonist's sense of hubris. Why get 'mean' at all? We're debating the merits of two pieces of shlock, are you really that emotionally invested? BTW, you must know some deeply philosophical tweens to peg my age at 12.
But if you really want to know what a "poop sandwich" is, try watching "Thor 2: The Dark World." Compared to that cinematic abortion, "Legend of Hercules" looks like a masterpiece.

Argh, no, I will not indulge in this 'lesser of two evils' contest any further. It is just splitting hairs at this point anyways, Thor 2 was just freaking terrible, that 300 sequel sprang to mind as well. They should all be thrown into a burlap sack and drowned in the river.

reply

I couldn't disagree more. Thor was a somewhat decent film, while Legend was entirely forgettable to me.

reply

Awesome post, lol.

reply

Lol!

I'm a huge lover of good scores and soundtracks, but nothing about the one in this movie captured my attention. I'm surprised anyone found anything about this movie interesting, lol, but to each his/her own.

reply

U must have been high watching this movie.

reply

No, it's really just a question of personal taste. I think that people who like Hollywood blockbuster movies with big stars and big CGI are gonna prefer Dwayne Johnson's "Hercules" movie. And people (like myself) who go for foreign films that concentrate more on cinematography and style, will most likely prefer "Legend of Hercules" with K. Lutz. At least that's how it was with my group of friends. As far as your speculation; Hell YES I was high while watching "Legend of Hercules.." is there a better way to watch a fantasy movie?? However I have also seen it while totally clear headed, and my opinion was the same..

"IMdB; where 14 year olds can act like jaded 40 year old critics...'

reply

To each his own. While Dwayne's Hercules was not a great movie, The Legend of Hercules was just horrifying and it's not even a horror movie. Felt like the director siphoned millions from the 75 million dollar budget to his personal bank account instead of improving the movie's 'special' effects.

reply

If you knew anything about "Hercules" movies through the years, you would realize that they were NEVER about special F/X. The movies were low budget, the effects were never realistic, and sometimes laughable. Also the acting quality was largely ignored while the emphasis on physique was all important. "Legend of Hercules" is totally faithful to that classic formula..it even has the look of a foreign-produced film. In other words, "Hercules" was never really 'Hollywood,' which is exactly what the Dwayne Johnson movie is. Because of that I don't even consider that film an authentic entry in the 'Hercules' genre.. As far as where the budget for "Legend of Hercules" went, I don't really care. It probably went up the director's nose. I'm interested in film...not gossip, and I don't give a damn how Renny Harlin lives or spends his money.

'As far as where the budget for "Legend of Hercules" went, I don't really care.'
Well that sums up your opinion.

reply

Yep...you got me. I'm guilty of not being obsessed by the private lives of movie stars and directors. I'm one of those freaks that is more concerned with, you know...movies. I apologize for not being a woman or a gossip queen. Incidentally, why is someone like you on a site like Imdb? I would think TMZ.com or some other celebrity gossip site would be more fitting to your interests..that's where you can find out who is using drugs, and how celebs spend their time and money.

Your response betrays your negligence of events that are linked to the movies you watch. The main reason sites like these exists is to expose us to more knowledge about every aspect of a particular movie. 'Obsession' is clearly a strong word when all I suggested was the fact that the movie's budget did not match it's finished product.

"I'm one of those freaks that is more concerned with, you know...movies"; No you're not! You just displayed your narrow-minded perception about the state of things, not limited to movies.

"I apologize for not being a woman or a gossip queen", apology not accepted; there exists smarter women than you who gossip frequently. Maybe limited brain space might be the cause of your negligence, but don't we all? Please show a bit of concern towards a movie u claim to like and avoid being a mindless drone that is steered of the path of knowledge and sent towards oblivion.

The ignorance of isolation breeds unwanted hostility- not me, some guy said it in a book I once read, once.

Legend of Herc wasn't promoted because the filmmakers realized it was *beep* Remember, promotion costs millions. So if the owners if the film hated it, that proves it's garbage. The rock Hercules was actually fun.

reply

I would take The Rock's Hercules over this version. This was quite possibly the most boring Hercules movie I've ever seen.

reply

Why can't we just enjoy BOTH movies???

"...insert corny quote here"

reply

I didn't think highly of the Rock's version of Hercules but at least I was somewhat entertained and amused by it.

This Hercules movie was so bad it should have been a straight-to-DVD movie.

The only thing worth mentioning in this film is that Scott Adkins played a formidable villain that I only wish was in The Rock's version of Hercules instead.

reply

Dwayne sucks

reply

Really, he's too "Hollywood." What ever character he tries to play, he is always 'The Rock.' Which is fine for straight-up action movies, but for fantasy films that want to be taken halfway seriously..no way. At least "Legend of Hercules" attempted to be serious in tone.
