Sandra Bullock too old for Ryan Reynolds. Who should have been Margaret?

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but, while I enjoyed this movie, I was distracted by the 12 year age difference between Margaret and Andrew. I think Sandra Bullock is too mature, now, for these types of frivolous fluff movies. I could think of a lot of younger actresses, maybe a few years older than Ryan Reynolds, who could have done as well or better playing Margaret. Emily Blunt, Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz, Mila Kunis. Just a short list. Who do you think would have been a better fit?

Jennifer Connelly.

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds were perfect for their individual roles and had great chemistry as a couple. I could never have imagined them two together as a couple before but in the movie they were just right.

12 year gap? So what? Sandra looks pretty damn good for her age and Ryan complemented her. Saying Cameron Diaz would've been a better fit is hilarious. She's not a good enough actress nor does she suit the Margaret character.

In any case, Margaret seemed like she was supposed to be at least 4-6 years older than Andrew.

Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Connelly are both good actresses, but neither fits the role of Margaret, IMO.

Cameron is too amiable, goofy and laid back to be convincing as a bitchy, hard-driving careerist and Jennifer doesn't excel at comedy.

Sandra can do both.

Honestly, I was not at all bothered by the age difference between the two because Sandra's age does not show. She looks much younger than she actually is. Even though you can tell that she is supposed to be a bit older than Ryan due to her higher position, I do not think the movie would be right without her. Not to mention, often times employees fantasize of being intimate with their boss and she is the perfect person to play "the office babe". In conclusion, the age difference works in this situation and I'm not so sure the other actresses listed could have played this role as well.

I would like to know what Bullock does to have that good a body at 45--assuming that the retouching was minimal. She must work out diligently.

She's talked in the press about loving to dance ... but I don't know if dancing is her entire routine.

Good genes don't hurt. Some of us are born lucky, and others are not.

Some people can work out and not show any muscles at all. others don't work out and look like they do.

I know a carpenter who works physically all day and he looks like he doesn't have a muscle in his body.

She said on Regis and Kelly something about being nude on film "forever", having special motivation.

To be quite honest, I didn't give any consideration at all to the difference in their ages while watching this movie and only gave Margaret's age a thought once (while laughing at Betty White's comment that the term 'girl' didn't really apply to her). Furthermore, I can't imagine any actress other than Sandra Bullock playing this character, certainly not any on your list, I don't think Sandra Bullock is too mature to be appealing in this sort of movie, and I don't think The Proposal is 'frilvolous fluff'.

I didn't think too much about the age difference, although I knew watching this film that Sandra Bullock was 44 (so it was hard for me to imagine her playing a younger woman). I guessed Ryan at about 30 in real life, which seemed to be in the neighborhood of his character's age.

Anyway, I wanted to make the point about the age difference, comparing this to Adventureland. Did anyone see that? He hooks up with Kristen Stewart in that movie, and she's 17! How is that not disturbing and this movie is? I'm talking two extremes of a double standard here, but it's worth noting since so many people have trouble with the age difference.

I thought a 30-year-old guy having sex with a 17-year-old girl was creepy. I thought a 30-year-old guy doing the same with a 44-year-old woman was cool. A lot of guys would probably disagree with me on this. If so, yeah, I get it.

I agree that sometimes we cannot get rid of the feelinf another acotr\actress would have done a better job, would have fit better with the role, etc. However, I believe Sandra looks great in this role. I like Cameron Diaz a lot but in What happen in Vegas she did look and act older than her accidental husband Kutcher. In TP, I couldn't feel that she was that much older even for the fact I knew it was so in real life. I believe she was just the right choice for the role. And Ryan Reynolds was adorable. I enjoyed the movie a lot and wouldn'have changed any actors in it.

All of this speculation is pointless. Look at all the credits, like, where it says Sandra Bullock - Executive Producer. It's her movie, and it was made for her and her alone to be the star of. And what's the big deal anyways, it's a movie, you know, fictional!

reply

Excuse me, where in the credits did you see that? Because as far as I know, Bullock is NOT the producer of this movie.

reply

It's right there on IMDB...

Sandra Bullock is Executive Producer of this movie. Look at IMDB's full credits section:

I think Sandra is perfect for the role
You couldn't tell she was 12 years older either

They were all perfect for the movie. If anyone else played them the movie wouldn't have been so funny.

I have to disagree. I think casting Sandra Bullock was perfect. She has good comedic timing, and also played the hardcore-city-girl to the right level also. As for the age difference, had it not been at least that much I wouldn't have believed the boss/subordinate relationship, and had it been more, it would have been too creepy.
Not an Oscar performance, but well done by all.
