Just…Awful
Don’t watch this. Can’t believe it’s got a 6.1 on IMDb.
shareI'm about 45 minutes in and you're right, it's awful! I'm sure I know who was executed, no shocker there. I can't believe what a mealy mouth Skarsgard is playing. He couldn't form a whole sentence through the entire interview. He cheats on his wife, doesn't pull over when the car lights are acting up and he's driving in pitch darkness, and listens to Goth when she tells him to flee the scene. What a mealy mouthed idiot he is!
I'm going to try to finish it but I'm not sure I will. It's really bad.
Edited to say: I fast forwarded most of it but I saw bits and pieces. IMO they were all duplicates, which is why they were so sadistic. Their bodies can be replicated, but they were soulless. Skarsgard too, it's just that he was so mealy, even as a replica.
Question about the ending: I think he was doing everyone a favor and committing suicide. Why else would he go back to the resort, now deserted for the season. Did you get the same impression?
All of your issues with the script were explained.
He cheats on his wife - It was explained at the dinner that he married rich and didn't have much of his own. This would create resentment especially how in-pocket his wife made him feel at the dinner. Mia Goth was an avid fan who respected him.
Doesn't pull over - The two couples had been drinking and when the lights did start acting up the car was in motion. The look on his face didn't say he was fit to drive whether that be intoxication or having been a long day.
Flees the scene - When leaving the resort we are show the barb wired fences to show that the country is extremely dangerous. It was also told to the guests that they should not leave the resort. When Mia Goth, a regular to the island tells Skargard that the country is corrupt and you will be raped, after you're in a state of shock what do you expect someone to act like?
So if I'm understanding you, you're saying that it's OK that he cheated on his wife because she had the money?; you're saying because the car was in motion he couldn't pull over when the lights started acting up so it was OK for him to drive without lights?; and you're saying it was definitely OK for him not to call the police after he hits and kills someone because the island was dangerous, even though his wife, as you said, has a lot of money and could probably have had a lawyer flown in ASAP?
Wow, OK 🤣🤣🤣
I'm not saying it is ok to do any of those things. I'm saying that those were the reasons they happened.
I downloaded it thinking I'd maybe like it, but every time I go through it it looks terrible.
shareI liked it and thought it was pretty interesting.
shareI thought it was ok. It definitely is disturbing and a thinking movie that leaves much for the viewer to conjure, interpret and arrive at their own interpretations of event meanings. Not bad for a young filmmaker who has only made 3 films.
