They didn't even attempt to try take the franchise in a new direction. Chris Rock was miscast and Jackson was barely in the movie. The story is super predictable and the traps sucked. At least even the worst Saw movies still had a decent twist and some cool traps.

Having watched parts II - Spiral over the past three days (I watched Saw 3D, Jigsaw & Spiral last night).
I would agree Spiral is the worst. It felt the most removed from the franchise, the 'jigsaw' voice on the tapes was hilarious almost like a parody, the cringe inducing 'hip hop' music at the beginning and ending was vomit inducing. It also had a few comedy attempts which I don't like in these Saw films.
Also the political message about police corruption wasn't needed and feels a bit too current and trendy.
It's bad, but I still think Saw VII/3D was much worse.
