I thought "Tick Tock", "Say my Name", and "500 Miles" were all used to excellent effect. The show was treading water through episodes 3,4, and 5, but it was Back last night.
shareYeah? Tell you what. I bailed on this show but i'll check this out. I always give a new show a second chance. I didn't feel the premise was enough to support a series and it really should have just been a musical movie.
shareI think the show does what it does well, but I'm not that keen on what it does. The dancing and singing numbers aren't a style of performing I enjoy. "Say My Name" is the perfect example of it. I mean, it's colorful and all, but all the shoulder jerking and hand flapping and hair tossing, the performers take themselves so seriously. I like the lead actress and things move briskly and colorfully. Kind of a bold move to have Peter Gallagher being a stroke victim and I guess Steenburgen is there to insure an older demographic, but ZEP is a strange marriage of youthful angst, musical fun and family concerns.
I understand the music interludes are the main hook but I'm not totally on board with it.
I agree about Peter Gallagher and I'll go a step farther and say that his freaky face and downer subplots, ruined episodes 3,4,5 for me. He was only sparsely in last nights ep. and I think that helped.
