Is it possible to make a horror movie without characters making stupid choices? I feel like the plot is driven in most horror films simply because the characters are dumb. I know there's the argument that during scary situations, people panic and don't think straight.
Like, Seth not closing the door of the cop car? I was literally yelling at the tv.
Please, name some horror movies where the characters are not constantly being idiotic.
No, it is not. Because if characters would make smart choices there would be no horror in the movie.
Also worth to note - if you think people in horror movies make bad choices then you probably never leave your house. majority of people in real life isnt even close to being as smart as these horror heroes.

it seems like most horror movies today make the camera shake all over the place or do a lot of quick cuts to hide their bad looking special effects.
when you find yourself questioning the decisions the characters are making and wanting them to make different choices that just means the movie is working on some level.
it's a purposeful trick to have the onscreen characters unaware of something and so make a mistake while the audience is completely aware.
