Naw, Kathleen Kennedy needs the Rey character because in her mind getting the public to like her is the only way she can validate herself to society.

shareBy this point Kathy probably thinking that if she beats the audience over the head enough with Rey they will eventually just give up and agree that she's a great character. Pretty sure that's the definition of insanity.
Maybe back in the 70's and 80's Lucas and Spielberg treated her like garbage which is why Kathy is so insecure with herself? Maybe they basically treated her like a girl whose only purpose was to fetch them coffee? Either way no matter what Kathy may or may not have gone through is irrelevant as to whether I think her movies are good.
