This or Requiem for a Dream?
Of all the films I've ever seen in my life these two were the most disturbing ones ever in my opinion. Which one did you find more disturbing?

Those are possibly the two most disturbing ones I've ever seen as well. It's kind of comparing apples and oranges....in 'Requiem' there are events that are much more commonplace in society, depicting the tragic effects of addiction and drug use. That kind of 'real' feeling makes it scary.....the mother's experiences, particularly, are very sad. There isn't much that's overtly physically violent, however, unlike in Martyrs, which is equally bleak but depicts physical torture alongside the psychological torture. I guess, in that way, Martyrs feels less 'real' than 'Requiem', as I (fortunately) haven't had much experience with physical torture, but I have had terrifying drug-induced experiences. You're trying to reach a euphoric state and receive long-term pain; Martyrs is more about pain to reach euphoria. So I guess, to me, 'Requiem' is a bit scarier. Neither of them I could just watch casually, that's for sure, and I won't probably won't rewatch either for some time.
We're just a million little gods causin' rain storms, turnin' every good thing to rust
Well, Requiem for a dream was disturbing to me 15 years ago but today, even if its still a great piece of art, is not that disturbing. You could have thousand of stories like this and after a second watching last night, I think the descent to hell is overrated. Its crazy *beep* and painful, but getting an arm cut is not dying from cancer or having you're head chopped off, ending up in prison is not the end of the world, having to go to sexual fetish things is not like getting raped inside a dungeon every day, and probably the mother is the one who got it worse.
Nobody wanted to punch Aronofsky back in 2000 like the director of Martyrs (which I witness at the premiere in montreal back in 2008 when some girl fainted and her boyfriend wanted to kill the director, screaming names at him that he was a crazy sicko doing these kind of movies). I never saw a movie like Martyrs doing that to people. People were in tears, others were in shock... its crazy what magic on screen can do.
Today, with internet, porn, gore, shock sites, its not like it was back than.
But lets try these other movies that could be compare to Requiem of a dream in disturbing level (even less good or crap).
I still considered Martyrs to be the number 1 most disturbing movie ever.
-Philosophy of a knife
-Snuff 102
-A Serbian film
-Cannibal Holocaust
-Salo
-Megan is Missing
-Eden Lake
-Guinea Pig series (crap)
-August underground mordum serie (crap)
-Inside (à l'intérieur)
-Them (ILS)
-High tension (crap and a copycap of dean koontz best seller)
-Frontiers
-Ichi the killer
-visitor Q

Great one!
Martyrs and Requiem are definitely near the top for me as well, with Eden Lake not too far behind. But my number 1 most disturbing movie is definitely Cheap Thrills. So bleak, I will never watch it again.
sharerequiem for sure.

Requiem. Martyrs is just a gory torture porn masquerading as ab art film.
shareRequiem For A Dream is a much better film in my opinion.
