Did anyone watch this without knowing that its a true story?

I've never cried watching a movie before.EVER! but I couldn't hold my tears even after it was over. and I thought maybe thats because I knew from the begining that its a true story. so I wanted to ask people who watched it without knowing that, how did you react at the end of the movie?(ofc before that little script at the end about the real Hachi )

I found out about the story from the Futurama episode Jurassic Bark, which references the Hachi tale at the end of the episode and is one of the saddest moments I've ever seen in a tv series. When I watched this film I could hardly stop crying during the last half hour or so

I did watch the movie without knowing it was based on a true story. After watching the movie, I vaguely remember reading about Hachiko on wikipedia a few years back (I was probably looking up random dog info at that time), but didn't realize that until I saw the end. I noticed the movie was on one of the Starz channels and it looked interesting so I recorded it. I didn't expect the master to die, and once Hachi kept coming back to the station, I did assume that they would reunite in spirit whenever Hachi passed away. I started getting teary eyed when flashbacks showed Hachi and the master spending time together and moved to crying when the movie got back to the classroom.

even if this is based on a true story the hollywood is unbelievably exaggerated things in the movie version. while watching this movie i've never cried but i had a lil bit wet eye. That was overexaggerated, knowing this it was hard to cry.

When I first saw this film, I never realised till the end it was a true story, I had never heard of Hachi before I saw the film, when I first saw it, I orginally thought it was a Hollywood version of the story of Grayfriars Bobby

someone told me about this not that long ago. seems like too much of a tear-jerker for me, though I've loved the story since I saw the statue years ago outside the station in Shibuya

I figured it out. First I thought: this must be based on a (very) short story, because everything moved at a snail's pace. No real story except for:

1) Guy finds dog
2) Guy keeps dog
3) Guy dies
4) Dog waits for dead guy
5) Dog dies

This "movie" should have wrapped up in under 50 minutes at the most.

It is a touching true tale, but I got really bored with all the endless piano music and the 100+ shots of Hachi "assuming the position".

Ignore the door.

You must be a right laugh to watch a movie with. Do you constantly talk throughout with your little anecdotes, such as

'pfftt he totally could have done X instead of Y to avoid him having to do all this'

'why is he doing that? I totally would have done this'

'wow they are dragging this out, 3 hours for a ship sinking? (titanic..) could be done in 70 minutes with some good story telling'

Please go.

I didn't know that this was a true story before watching. I just watched this movie for the first time last night. When I found out at the end that this was based on a true story, I really lost it then. But then there were happy tears when I found out that the boy had his own little Hachi just like his grandfather had.

I haven't had that good a cry over a movie in a long time. I did not know it was a true story which made it even more moving when I saw the end. Highly recommended. Beautiful movie.

I watched it two days ago, not knowing the story other than being told it's about a movie where a dog meets his master at the train station every day. I assumed it'd be another Marley & Me, the dog dies at the end and everyone is sad. Had no clue it would be master going before the dog. From the time Parker collapsed until old Hachi died, I was a sobbing hysterical mess. Thank god my kid was already in bed. The greatest movie I'll never watch again!

I had no idea about it being a true story. When the real dog was shown, i think i probably stared at the pic for 6-10 minutes and cried some more.
