I Cried For Hours

Amazing movie.

So did I!

I can count on one hand the number of times I've cried while watching movies, and now I'll have to add this one to the list! I was expecting a cut story of a man and his dog, but I love how wrong I was...

It is such a heartwarming yet heartbreaking story all at the same time!
Hachi is such a loyal and loving dog, and the reason why I love dogs so much. I've seen stories of owners who've passed on and their dogs staying faithfully by their sides (the US soldier whose dog didn't leave his side or the dog who stayed by his Japanese owner's grave)

The part where his wife sees Hachi at the station after 10 yrs and embraces him...I was a straight goner!

It tears on my heartstrings because its only been a few years since my dog Jett passed, but now I'm thinking of him with a smile on my face.

It's a year ago that my beloved Speedy, a Jack Russel of 16 years old left me for the dog's heaven. She was courageous until the last moment but suffered horrible pains. I prayed : " Oh my god, please let her gho now to her heaven ". And I put her on a carpet. She was calm then and I saw in her eyes a blinking light and telepatically heard her say: "thank you boss for the nice years in your company, now my sadness is your sadness" And she left for her heaven. It lasted more them an hour befoe I started to cry and am still crying now.

I also lost my dog a few years ago. My sister made me a beautiful picture album of pics with me, my dog I lost and my other dogs. I take it out every now and then and have a good bawl.

I think when we cry in Hachi, many of us also cry for our beloved pets whom we miss terribly.

Purgatory...You weren't really sh_t, but you weren't all that great either. Like Tottenham.

Definitely ... My little Hanna had to be put down on Christmas Eve in 2012. This was over a year ago and a day does not go by in which I don't think of her. I still tear up at times. I think most dog lovers realize the bond we have with our dogs are special. When they pass away, a piece of our heart passes away with them. At least, that's always been the case with me.

Tracey73, I had to have my Babe put down two days after you lost your Hanna, the day after Christmas 2012. I spent most of 2013 sad and crying. I agree with you that part of us passes with them. I have started to dream about being reunited with her. Those dreams give me a moment of joy.

People on death row should be required to watch this movie. Someone mentioned this movie in a Water for Elephants thread, and said that it was hard to sit through, so I expected it would be similar treatment.

It's totally different from what I expected. The first and only movie I have ever rated on imdb. I gave it 10 stars for being a different kind of love story.

Sadly, I think you miss the point. There is a reason why people on Death Row (for the most part) are on Death Row. They have no empathy, no compassion and usually have committed heinous and cruel crimes with no sense of remorse or regret for the pain inflicted on others.

This film moves NORMAL people. People who have compassion and can feel what others experience. Our sadness stems from our empathy with Hachi.

This would not be punishment to a death row inmate (for the most part) in that many have no feelings for the suffering of others. Now there ARE those who would feel sad and due to various circumstances are still on death row, even though they feel great remorse and regret, but still that is not much of a punishment or even a teaching tool.

What this SHOULD be shown to are people early on in life. Anyone who does NOT empathize or feel sadness ..... well .... I find THAT to be a bit suspicious. Remember that many serial killers felt no emotion when confronted with the needless suffering of animals, as kids. I would definitely regard someone with suspicion if they were NOT affected by this film (if for only being inattentive, selfish, stupid or heartless). :D

I saw this movie about 3 years ago and had the tv on the Hallmark channel, it came on late night and I was sketching or something so I left the tv on this particular movie while I was busy. I became interested when Gere found the little pup at the station thinking this was a "dog saves master" type of film. I had an inkling it would be sad but I was sobbing for a half hour after the movie ended...man, that was a good cry! My dog was staring at me for awhile wondering why I kept hugging her. I had to laugh at all the comments-we are really softies underneath it all.
