problem with the dialogue

in pulp fiction, reservoir dogs and even kill bill to an extent the dialogue was funny and a little bit quicker and tighter then how normal people talk but still it did sound very natural. the way real people talk, just a but funnier. Think of Travolta and Jackson talking about pigs and personality in Pulp Fiction. but in this film, and it's not that there woman, but there is nothing even remotely natural about the way they talk. with every sentence it seems like the girls are just trying to beat you over the head with how goddamn sassy they are. That gets old fast. And conversations just go on and on. Every book you read about writing screenplays always says you use dialogue as little as possible. Obviously that is not Tarantiono's style but at a certain point it gets ridiculous. Think about the scene where Julia talks about the lap dance thing with Butterfly. Tarantiono uses like 200 words when maybe 50 would work. and the whole time Julia is talking she keeps swaying her head back and forth cause Damn she is just so sassy. This is actually the only film I ever walked out on. after being very disappointed by planet terror, and then death proof came on and the girls started with these long ass conversations, I just couldn't take it anymore. So I left and went to a party and got trashed. it was the right decision. eventully I watched the whole movie, and I do like the lap dance scene but other then that it was pretty disappointing. Though it does make me want nachos. anyone agree.

I do agree. The dialogue in this film is horrible.

I like the dialogue. I know it's unnecessary a lot of the time but I like the talking in the diner, and at the convenience store. It's how he writes and you have to know that going in.

I don't mind the dialogue in the first half. It's the characters in the second half that make me hate it. They're annoying, they leave behind a friend to potentially be raped, there's just nothing likable about them.

You can have unlikable characters and make them interesting to watch. The girls in the second half didn't do that for me. I hated them and was actually hoping Mike would kill them.

Julia and her friends had their annoyances but seemed relatable. A bunch of stuntwomen that have no qualms about killing, ditching a good friend, and playing whatever with your however ship mast...what? It just seemed like too convenient of a way to get them in a nice car for the last scene.

Agreed. I didn't "hope" for them to be killed off, but I surely didn't find them likeable - especially considering Lee.

I don't agree either. Not do I feel the dialogue is unneeded or doesn't add to the plot. It's a style inspired by the rhythms if music and how you can create that with words, and I feel like he did that very well here.

I agree. Tarantino has a way in many of his other films of at least making people suspend disbelief for a couple of hours and suck them into his world, but he failed to do it in this one, mainly because the dialogue was just too much and very forgettable.

Ok.

Just watched this for the first time. It was total Tarantino dialogue... but at times it felt like Tarantino imitating Tarantino, if that makes any sense. I felt like I was watching the female version of Jules and Vincent at times, and it took away from the film at times. Too much dialogue definitely.

I think this is one of his best films (I know I'm in the minority).

I really enjoy the dialogue. I think it's great.
