My family is from Iran this film is ugly

It's a shame Hollywood makes Iran and the people of Iran look like such an ugly psychotic country when it is in fact a very beautiful country. Obviously the political regime there is currently not ideal, but does that give Hollywood and the media the right to make movies stereotyping all of the people in a country as evil and ugly?

Hollywood and the media are controlled by a certain group of "people" with their own agenda. Why else do you think this film won? They intend to keep Iran's image as an ugly destitute post apocalyptic wasteland. Films like these are completely unfair. It is one of the oldest cultures in the world. It has a rich history, poetry, art, some of the most amazing and unique foods, and some of the most exotic and BEAUTIFUL women in the world. I forgot did I say BEAUTIFUL women?!

When they show you these films and images in the media they attempt to show destitute streets with belligerent men in Islamic clothing. Notice that they ALWAYS show Iran as overcast. In any movie or news presentation they ensure it is overcast. Iran is NOT overcast. It is a subtropical climate lol. There is vast agriculture growing there constantly: vineyards, citrus fruits, roses! I wonder why they always choose to use images when it is overcast lol? Hmmm. They don't show you the real people, the incredible sunny mountainous backgrounds with green hills, the beautiful ancient architecture, silk rugs, natural Persian beauties. No they show you overcast beat down streets with men screaming and , of course, guns.

People in Iran are not Arabs and they do not speak Arabic. The speak Farsi. Farsi is a very beautiful language unique to Iran. Have you ever met a Persian person? All of the Persian people I know are usually well educated sweet ,peaceful people. They have excellent education in Iran. They are not a third world country. My ex girlfriend is a little nutty, but all Persian women are lol.

There is a young generation of Persians in Iran just waiting to be a part of the western world. There are forces against them here in America. I urge you to do your own research. See how beautiful of a country it is. Don't just read the news headlines for this search. We all know who controls the media. The same group of people who control Hollywood and the academies.

So the group of 'people' he is alluding to are... Eskimos? I didn't think the reputation was the Eskimos were running things in Hollywood and the media. I'm pretty sure it's those 'people' that wear the beenie things on their head and have names with 'Stein' in them.

But hey, if you want to pretend he had those igloo dwelling thugs in mind, go ahead. No one's buying it that don't hate the jews already.

1) In my defense, I had just glossed over OP's post when I replied to netgirl9's post. Apparently, I had totally missed the line starting with "Hollywood and the media..." Otherwise, I would have replied to netgirl9's post with 2 words..."Hear, Hear".

2) Personally, I never bought that whole line of (non)reasoning that asserted that the "Jooooz" ran Hollywood and the media. To me, that was a crock.

You didn't actually point out any way in which Iran was portrayed that was false, other than the damned weather. Were these people not taken hostage? Would the six escapees, had they been caught, not been executed?

"Actually, I'm "angry at" Argo, because it's nothing but a pack of lies that insult the REAL heroes of the story who had risked their lives to help Americans they didn't even know, and it pretends that Mendez and the CIA had saved the day, when they did no such thing.

Mendez only arrived at the very last minute, did absolutely nothing of value, and never took any of the six anywhere, not at any time."

Wow, I didn't know you were there to verify this!

I feel sorry for you if you think you have to BELIEVE everything someone tells you. (see how it works both ways, Chachi?)

You seem really butt hurt. Do you need a pillow to sit on? Maybe you can burn a flag in the street and shout "Death to America" to make yourself feel better.

What the hell is wrong with you? You are the very reason the US and its citizens have a bad name. You're the modern day version of Hitler and the 'great Arian race' except you have to replace Hitler with whoever is president at the time and Arian to American. The similarities are strikingly similar. The funny thing is, Americans will never see this. They think they're God's gift to humanity. It's sad really. The greatest country in the world also has the greatest debt in the world. It kind of makes the 'greatest country in the world' statement an oxymoron. In case the other poster didn't hammer the point home good enough, albeit what you and you're sad excuse for a country think, the majority of the world would love nothing better to be anything but American. In fact, most of the world can't wait for your eventual downfall. But your from 'Murica so everyone wants to be just like you. Moron.

And in case ya didn't notice, no one went on a rampage here over the cold blooded murder of over 3k people on 9/11. Listen to the news reports from back in the day as they reported / replayed the murderous words of those savages there in Tehran. You want them to be viewed as a beautiful and civilized people ? Right.
Unlike you though I will not condemn an entire nation of people for the actions of some.

Mostb acts of terrorism are perpetrated by muslims.

not going to inject into the whole conversation, just wanted to point out that statistically the most acts that are considered teroristic in nature are actualy perpetrated by white male christians. Whether these three facts relate to feasons for the crimes or not we do not know, but such are the data.

You're a frigging idiot, and the reason why so many people around the world hate Americans. I'll admit op's post was a bit blinkered; the films shows the perspective of the American hostages, and the feeling of the states at that time. The Iranian people did storm and embassy and take hostages, and that is what the film was about. It would have been impossible to realistically convey why the people felt that strongly, without being detrimental to the rest of the film.

That said having read the trivia section of this film, it seems that Iran had good reasons to be angry with the states, and the US and the UK (my country) are responsible for atrocities that were just as bad as anything that happened on 911. In fact it isn't a surprise why that part of the world hates us like they do.

reply

Sure, the Americans are hypocrites. Nonetheless, the Iranians attacked a embassy. By law and ancient tradition, the Americans were entitled to severely punish the Iranians.

I appreciate your post, and I agree with all of your sentiments up to the last two sentences.

It seems like you didn't actually see this movie. I saw some beautiful landscapes and a variety of weather conditions, mostly clear. This film depicts one very ugly time in history. I don't think anyone intelligent would automatically assume it represents all Iranians ever. If they do, it's their shortcoming, not all of America's or all of the entertainment industry. Drawing that conclusion is the same kind of generalization you're upset about. You can't have it both ways; you'll fail to make any valid point with that approach.

I also don't know what your point is about language - did they not speak Farsi in the film? I do not speak Farsi, but I did happen to watch the film with closed captioning (CC) turned on, and every time the Iranians spoke, it said, "Speaking Farsi." I assume that's because they were. (Just like when the Canadians were clearing out, one said, "Oui, moinsieur," and it simply said, "Speaking French.")

reply

They did indeed speak Farsi, it was even stated at one point that one of the hostages spoke it-I think the girl that was in Carnivale.

reply

I'm an Iranian living in Iran and I can tell except the the opening which is full of lies the rest is pretty accurate.
