Moon is suppose to be tall and athletic. In the comics hes a solider and boxer. Marc Spector is a Bruce Wayne type. Both this and Ali as Blade blow. I wanted a mature movie or show not a kidfest on Disney plus
All the more reason to cast Oliver Jackson-Cohen then. I mean, he is in Greece currently filming something else, but I was so rooting for him to be given this opportunity!
I mean, he said in interviews he was never even contacted - I don't understand why, if what Marvel purportedly wanted to do has any truth to it.
I don't understand this casting either. I like Oscar Isaac, great actor, he is a much better choice to play Miguel O'Hara in a Spider-Man 2099 movie, than Marc Spector Moon Knight. I still want Oliver Jackson Cohen to play Moon Knight. Or the awesome Joseph Gordon Levitt as Moon Knight.
Who cares about Oliver whatever? He's not even that good of an actor, he was just serviceable in that Hill House series. I didn't even have any idea he had such a fanbase.
Oscar Isaac is a solid actor with great roles, who has been close to an Oscar nomination a couple of times. Blame them for choosing the best actor instead of the best lookalike.
Except that Oliver Jackson-Cohen is great in everything he does. You are obviously unfamiliar with his work based on your comment.
Also, all the minorities start screaming if someone of the wrong ethnicity is cast for a role nowadays. Well, in this case they actually SAID they intended to cast someone Jewish or Israeli to respect the character's heritage, and then they didn't.
As an atheist Jewish person, I can attest that it's definitely not [just] a religion. I mean your very statement "Jewish on his father's side" would be nonsensical if it was.
It's ignorant to reduce it to a religion.
And besides, where is that information coming from, except for the fans trying to justify his casting? I am not seeing anything definitive on the interwebs.
And once again, Oliver Jackson-Cohen would have been a much better fit physically, aside from everything else.
Oscar Isaac doesn't need a big fanbase, he's been good in almost everything he's done.
The guy from Hill House wasn't even in the top 5 actors in his series.
I just realized now he was also in the second season, I had already forgotten, so forgettable that he is.
True, but besides taste there is the curriculum and body of work of each one of them.
Oscar Isaac has been part of major franchises like Star Wars and X-Men.
He has been nominated and won several significant and popular awards, including golden globes.
Has played major roles with important and renowned directors such as the Coen Bros., Ridley Scott, Soderbergh, Refn, Villeneuve, in action, comedy, music genres.
Oliver Jackson-Cohen has kind of... Been there in a series of Netflix, and been ok in The Invisible Man I guess?
And other roles only a niche amount of people have seen and nobody really cares about.
I mean, his career can still improve and he can become a good and popular actor in the future, but for now this is nothing.
"Who cares about Oliver whatever?!?" Wow, wow, wow! Yet. You 'cared' to drop a lame sarcastic opinion about Oliver right there. See, you do care. You terrible, terrible troll. No, Oliver Jackson Cohen is a really good actor. The Hill House series are awesome. A lot of his other performances and accents he's able to do are really good as well. OJC would have been so perfect in so many ways for this role, especially a character such as Marc Spector. There were articles / videos about this throughout last year, there are videos of OJC himself talking about this. People really wanted him for the Moon Knight role, myself included.
"I didn't even have any idea he had such a fanbase." Oh, well -- and... by your logic, you might as well think that for anyone -- 'cause these... actors/celebrities -- you've got to question yourself; if ANY of them or anything have a fan-base or not, because your opinion really matters(?) 🤔👏
WTH. No-one said anything bad about Oscar Isaac?!? No-one. You think that and only you. You mention about his close Oscar nominations. So? There are plenty of MCU actors not have or yet to have any Oscar nominations? Are any of them less than the ones that have an Oscar nomination?!? You think about that. You see, no-one disputed Oscar Isaac's acting abilities. Oscar Isaac is awesome in so many movies, he really is. The Two Faces of January that was released in 2014, I love that film. I'll write my comments from my first post here again because you've clearly chosen not to have read them: I like Oscar, great actor. I want him to play Miguel O'Hara, in a Spider-Man 2099 movie. Go re-read my first post? Go. 🙂
They went with the popular actor. Not "blaming" them. As for YOUR opinion on who is the best, "lookalike"... so? Some of the art work on Moon Knight comic books, Oscar Isaac (and even Oliver Jackson Cohen) looks like Marc Spector -- again, so? Look-a-like. Ha. I'm okay with Oscar Isaac playing Moon Knight. He already played Apocalypse, Poe Dameron, Miguel O'Hara and soon Solid Snake also. I do have optimism for him as Moon Knight. He will be good.
I am excited about this show. Just would have loved this casting a little more had Oliver Jackson Cohen gotten the role that is all. The same way people would love to see Jon Hamm play a live action superhero, Batman. Or Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern. Or Katheryn Winnick as Captain Marvel. There is nothing wrong about that is it? Exactly.
Oh, no... you encourage drug use?!? You mention "Jesus", I'm sure he does NOT love you for that (and I don't even follow any religion). Anyway. Not everyone visits MovieChat on a regular/daily basis. The internet is full of self-righteous idiots like yourself, thinking others "should not have an opinion at all", ask yourself this: why is this website called, "MovieChat", huh?!? 'Nuff said.
I visit everytime I see a movie, to read on some of the old IMDB comments, which were superior in content than those of Movie Chat's itself.
Then I browse the front page just to see if something catches my attention, that's where I saw this series. I read some of the comics, but didn't even know they were making this a series. It's cool, I like Oscar Isaac, hope it's good. Loki is also interesting so far.
I don't believe Jesus ever existed in the first place, at least as the figure historically described. It's probably some true stories mixed up with fantasy that made up this mythological character.

Yeesh!!! Your whole entire comment just screams, 'Incel Vibes of a Toxic Fan / Celeb Stan'. You do realise people can have opinions here at MovieChat, not everything has to be about a 'Super Butthurt Oscar Isaac Fanboy' such as yourself, to which nobody wrote anything bad about Oscar Isaac? What logic were you thinking an actor such as Oliver Jackson-Cohen didn't have "such a fanbase". lol that is laughable. Just about every actor / fandom has a fanbase. For proof go to any Comic Convention, especially the ones just for autographs and photos with celebs.
"Oscar Isaac is a solid actor with great roles, who has been close to an Oscar nomination a couple of times. Blame them for choosing the best actor instead of the best lookalike..." - those are the typical words of an elitist and (again) toxic celeb stan/fanboy. Search through all the Marvel shows & movies. Not every MCU actor has an oscar nom or an oscar at all. You are such an elitist.
Honesty, as good as Oscar Isaac is in his many roles over the years. His role in the Moon Knight show wasn't all that impressive. He was just ok as Marc Spector/Moon Knight. Should remained a serious character. When he switched to Steven Grant, it was extremely bad, cringe worthy & very awkward, even people on Twitter/YouTube & many sites like MovieChat said he was "Dick Van Dyke bad" to "his attempt at a cockney accent jarring", and I 100% agree. Oscar pretty much ticked all the offensive stereotypes of "A Londoner" in that mental health part of his personality in Steven.
If Netflix had the rights to a Moon Knight show, they would have done the character justice and at least respected a lot of the source material and probably more. The Moon Knight character, just like Deadpool & Punisher, is not for kids.
I honestly didn't even remember again who this Oliver Cohen was, as this conversation was also such a long time ago I had to recollect where I had seen his face before.
This is a non-topic, such a nobody cares conversation.
I find it interesting how you are trying to spin this as me, a supposed Oscar Isaac fanboy (lol) who is upset, when in reality this entire topic just started with people being upset that this nobody guy was not cast for this role. Just because he's a "genuine Israeli jewish" lol
Broseph, nobody cares. I didn't even see this series.
It is a good idea. If you did not know already... Oscar Isaac actually had a cameo role as Miguel O'Hara in the 2018 movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse at the end credits. Hence the good reasons of the OP's post. That is what people were hoping to see Oscar Isaac as the live action Miguel O'Hara. A lot of people were disappointed about this strange casting in Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight. lol
Except that Oliver Jackson-Cohen is great in everything he does. You are obviously unfamiliar with his work based on your comment.

As awesome an actor Oscar Isaac is in many roles. I would have much preferred Oliver Jackson-Cohen in the role of Moon Knight than Oscar, I don't think he would have portrayed Steven Grant or Mr. Knight quite like the way Oscar Isaac did so embarrassing and so ridiculous. Not sure why the elites wanted Oscar Isaac in the role just because he was on the list of "potential Oscar noms" at one point in time, not every MCU actor has been nominated for an Oscar or even won one. lol
Yeah, literally every second of the show as I was watching I could see how Oliver JC would have been a lot more organic in the role. Plus he has an actual real London accent and he speaks French!
Also, I don't think they had a single Jewish person playing the members of his family.
Right! Had OJC gotten the role, he would have been a solid and perfect casting choice, and done a lot of justice to the character it deserved & needed... such as Ryan Reynolds's Deadpool, Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier, Charlie Cox's Daredevil, Christopher Reeves's/Henri Cavill's Superman, Michelle Pfieffer's Cat Woman, Danny DeVito's Penguin and J.K. Simmons's J Jonah Jameson. He would have been as if he walked out of a comic book.
It's been six months and I forgot a lot of the Moon Knight show to be honest. Might not watch the show again. lol. Such a shame Netflix didn't have the chance to make the show when they had Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Punisher etc, I believe the Moon Knight character would have gotten way more respect and been faithful to the source material of the comic books on that platform than Disney Plus.

I believe so too.
I thought this show was amateur hour.
It probably means that they have big plans for the character. I dunno much about Jackson-Cohen, I saw him in Invisible Man and he was pretty good, but he isn't a big name star
Isaac is a bonafide movie star. We can argue back and forth about who deserves what, whether Jackson-Cohen could or should be a star (as big or bigger or whatever) but he's not quite. Certainly not on the level of Isaac who's been in major franchises (X-Men and Star Wars. AGAIN, you can say that those franchises sucked, but that is beside the point. They were big franchises nonetheless) and has an Oscar nomination and is well-regarded for his talents as well as his stardom
Rewind to the first Avengers, look at all of the supporting actors that they cast: Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, ScarJo as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. These were actors who were already mainstream stars and had Oscar nominations under their belts. In fact, I believe Chris Evans was the only Avengers actor with no awards cred
I honestly don't know why Feige puts so much emphasis on casting bigger names since his movies hardly give the actors room to do much performance-wise. One thing is for sure, though: they are giving preference to movie stars and not TV stars or up-and-comers
I'll repeat it here too: all the minorities start screaming if someone of the wrong ethnicity is cast for a role nowadays. Well, in this case Marvel actually SAID they intended to cast someone Jewish or Israeli to respect the character's heritage, and then they didn't.
I for one find it hugely offensive.
And as I said above - Oliver Jackson-Cohen is tall and gorgeous, and significantly younger than Oscar Isaac. I just find it really hard to justify their selection when we are talking about a super-hero. That's aside from them going back on their word.
Hemsworth was a nobody. He had bit parts in that Steve Zahn Milla Jovovich movie and played capt kirks dad in Star Trek. Unless you watched home and away even in Australia he wasn't big. Moon Knight is Marvel's batman but 3x crazier. Issac might be a good actor but mk is 6'3 and 200 pounds and a playboy
I would rather watch Oscar Isaac acting "against" Ethan Hawke, tho. That's my personal preference because I have lost almost all excitement for the MCU or the superhero genre in general. The market is oversaturated and it's clear that they are going to milk every single ounce of profit from this franchise that they can and it's getting boring
I'm only going to watch Moon Knight because of Isaac and Hawke. I haven't watched (and will not) Wandavision or Falcon/Winter Soldier. I won't watch Loki, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, or Hawkeye
I read "Well, that's your problem" as having a passive aggressive tone. If you didn't intend it that way then I apologize
I gave a thought-out response to your initial post and then gave another thought-out response to the person who replied to me. Unlike 90% of posters on here, I'm not here to troll. I'll participate in a flame war, but won't go out of my way to start one
