doesn't hold a candle to notting hill
As far as romcoms go where famous/rich hook up with nobodies - you got notting hill, pretty woman, and the bodyguard (OK... it's not a romcom - lol ). At least, these are the films that come to mind.
They got solid writing (as far as romcoms go), tight script (not much filler material), and most importantly - good chemistry.
I think JLo can act - I'm not sure about Owen Wilson.... either way, the chemistry wasn't there.
The script.... there was a lot of filler material to fill those 2 hours - lots of musical numbers. When you have a lot of filler, your mind begins to wander.
The comedy bits weren't there, aside from the perpetual cheerful and comedic music.
And the writing.... well, the thing about great romcoms is that to be great, they also need dead serious moments - especially during the climax portion of the film. There wasn't much of that here.
All in all.... this film, even with all its faults, could have worked if Owen Wilson was replaced by another actor - and yes, changing other bits that I've mentioned, would have done wonders as well. As things stand though.... I'd give it 5.5/10
It's a weird experience watching this film - at times, it feels like it's getting close to being decent and then it immediately snaps back to mediocrity. So, you feel like you are being teased by the potential, only to later be pummeled by the dumb shit that follows. It's not a good feeling.
