The whole movie I wanted for Fasbender to get on a murderous spree like Luke Evans in No one lives. Very disappointing ending for me. This does not make it a bad movie, no, I just hated the kids so badly that I wanted to watch them die. I just finished watching the movie and for the first time I wanted it to be a rip off and end like I spit on your grave. I HATE THOSE *beep* KIDS!!!!!
I agree. I thought the movie was terrible. At least Funny Games had a moral component. This film was just disgusting violence for the sake of violence. Zero substance.
the movie was a very smart and cynical social study on the hooligan anti-social *beep* class of english inbreeds, it was pretty realistic and that's what is shocking... For example I read in the news how a kid was beaten up by three other kids and ten minutes later while the kid was still trying to stand up, they came back and stabbed him several times into the throat, such sociopaths happen not only in Britain and the movie showed their attitude very impressively

I get the 'social study' this was trying to be....but the minute the writer had the characters make such stupid and unbelievable decisions to try and force this 'social study' to work, this film stopped being smart in any way shape or form and actually just became plain stupid in parts.

c'mon making "stupid decisions" is the quintessence of any slasher movie this one at least felt realer than most of them and people underestimate how "stupid" one can become in situations of pure emotional and physical stress

Nah, I disagree.....I've watched loads of horror films, so I'm used to allowing for a certain level of stupid decisions. This was a whole other level...ridiculously stupid decisions (to the point where it's jarring for the viewer because it's beyond 'Steve just made a stupid decision' to 'the writer just made a really stupid decision').
And it's not just one or two stupid decisions....it's one after the other after the other after the other, all the way through to the very end.....all starting with the decision to stay on that beach in the first place (it's a romantic break away, they don't have long to enjoy it, she clearly wants to go when they're causing trouble...but no, they end up staying on that noisy beach and ruining a huge chunk of their romantic break away out of 'stubbornness?'...that makes no sense, especially when he has a vulnerable and uncomfortable looking girlfriend right next to him. That makes no sense...and that's not even when the 'horror' begins, so can't even excuse it as being scared.). That means it's just plain bad writing with the writer forcing the characters into particular scenarios instead of writing it more intelligently and naturally to make things happen.
What I will say, is that although the characters were doing unbelievable things, the actors were fantastic in it...all of them, even the kids, (just to make it clear I'm blaming the writing here, not the acting which was refreshingly brilliant for this kind of film...in a way, that's why it's such a shame it's let down by the lazy writing).

Buying a haunted house or reading from the book of Evil is what I would call a stupid decision but not exactly not wanting to let a bunch of kids ruin your day on the beach, I mean why is "stubbornness" a sign for stupid writing?? He obviously didn't want to give them the satisfaction of submitting to their bullying, he obviously underestimated their ruthlessness, that may be stupid in hindsight, but again, such "stupidity" is not uncommon, it wasn't implausible...

There's a big difference between the characters doing illogical things and the characters doing things you personally wouldn't do.
You wouldn't stay on the beach or confront the kids, which by the way his girlfriend urged him to do. I also don't agree with the manly standing your ground attitude but that's a personality flaw rather than a flaw in logic.
it's one after the other after the other after the other
What were all these other stupid decisions they made?

Not true at all.
Listen to what's being talked about on the radio at the beginning of the movie. That's what the movie is about.

Now, that's exactly the point of the film.. it tried to make you feel unsettling, helpless which makes the film a nightmare to you & more memorable.. it kind of makes you feel guilty witnessing all that cruelty and couldn't be able to do anything about it.. it kinda makes you one of the accomplices and a part of the crime.. and you are supposed to feel disgusted with the bad people.. so i guess the film succeeded in serving its purpose..!!
i thought the movie was super effective. fassbender's role did foolish things but the fact that both of them end up dead with no hope out of the nightmare made it a hard blow to take. and it was very realistic - one psycho kid egging on the others who were clearly very uncomfortable with it all, the female lead's reaction to circumstances as they develop (killing those two kids out of rage) and the chilling finale. i would have loved it if the kids got some more comeuppance but they didn't and that is what makes this film more terrifying.
