And I don't mean that in terms of racial diversity on screen - though the only non-whites in the movie were the baggage handler extras. No, the real whiteness of this movie shines through with numerous and seemingly endless shots of American flags, the abundant presence of men wearing cowboy hats, Pontiac's blunt product placement shot on the highway (the irony), and scenes and dialog that have been resuscitated from the 50's.
Interesting that you would feel left out from a movie that had nothing to do with you! Self-involvement at it's finest.
As someone who knows the Phelps personally I have to add that the movie was in fact realistic in portraying them as the "white" family that they actually are. In the town of Dubois there are at the moment at least 3 blacks. One is the Church of Christ pastor and his wife, A wonderful, kind man I might add. And the third is an Episcopalian Priest. I suppose their careers are decidedly "white" and cringe-worthy. Shame on you.
The state of Wyoming is, as the previous poster observed, very low on the African-American population. And not because were are racist and/or segregated, our state only has half a million people, so were a little low on everybody. You are welcome to come here, whatever color you are as I believe you will be surprised how un-racially aware this state is.
Your observations, however are decidedly racist and bigoted. But clearly since the world revolves around you, you couldn't possibly have been aware of that. I'm so happy I could be here to help you out.
But it's avant garde now to make fun of white people now that there's a black man, oh wait, a white man, oh wait, half-black, half-white man in the White House.
Doesn't matter what color the people in the movie are to get across the point that they all bleed the same blood and are all buried in the same coffins, draped with the same flag, no matter what color their skin.
This same funeral, with the same amount of respect in delivering a brave warrior to their home town for burial, would happen in Harlem or South Central. Death doesn't discriminate and neither do bullets in a war zone.
here we go again. wtf does Obama have to do with this discussion? I love that's the first thing white people now bring up whenever a discussion about race comes up. lol.
GIVE THE RACE CARD A REST!! VIEW IT FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH,,YOU'VE GOT "YOUR" PRESIDENT! THESE ESCORTS WILL BE DOUBLED WITH HIS POLICY! (OOPS -- SORRY -- THE CONTRARY RACE CARD CAME OUT!)
i would be less worried about race. no offense, but i think the problem is worrying about race and making everybody else worry about the ratio of blacks to whites in movies. i wouldn't worry about it, just try to ignore it IMO. we've got a black president, so obviously the rasicm issue is, for the most part, over with. anyways, just some of my thoughts. loved the movie though
Maybe you should go have a beer with the president and tell him how you really fee?, maybe they can color in all the white people or maybe some of them with CGI. would that help??
I wonder how many races had to die for the endless shots of american flags, the abundant presence of men wearing cowboy hats, and all the other stupid things you said.
Yeah, they should have made people who are white in real life black in the movie for the sake of politically correct twits, good call.
Add to that your implication that the flag of the most diverse country on earth is somehow "white," an idea that is deeply insulting to all Americans of other races, and you've made what may be the dumbest post in the history of IMDB.
Congratulations, I'll leave you to enjoy the honor and stew in your hate.
