What if would you like to see?

Haven't been super impressed by the What ifs they have chosen.

What if would you personally like to see?

Me? I'd like to see What if Odin told Loki he was adopted? So that it does not come as a shock to him when he is already an adult?

IMO, the obvious result is he does not go full bore Villain and end up being recruited by Thanos.

Thanos still makes his move, but with another as his agent.

Loki is still around, perhaps as shaky Anti-Hero.

What if Shang-Chi's mother didn't die.

That one is interesting because it could potentially mean Tony Stark would never become Iron Man.

reply

Remind me how Shang-Chi's mother living would have prevented Tony Stark from becoming Iron Man. I believe you, but I don't remember why this would be the case.

reply

Mandarin was retired and went back to being a crimelord after his wife/Shang's mom died. Going by the timeline, this would have been a bit before Tony was captured by the Ten Rings and became Iron Man. If the mom didn't get killed, he would not have restarted the Ten Rings and Tony would not have been captured by them.

Granted, Tony could have been captured by a different terrorist group since it was Obidiah Stane's idea, but he still needed the right conditions to become Iron Man (the shrapnel in the heart, his assistant/fellow hostage, being forced to build a missile, etc.)

reply

He already got recruited by Thanos in the main universe and he's been a shaky anti-hero since the end of Thor: Ragnorok.

Not much of a what if, when the changes are subtle and minute.

reply

What if Uncle Ben hadn't died?
What if Iron Man died saving New York from the Chitauri?
What if Ultron had uploaded himself into the Vision?
What if Captain Marvel stayed loyal to the Kree?

reply

Uncle Ben lives,...

Peter never learns, "with great power comes great responsibility"...

Might still be recruited by Start, but more as an arrogant, selfish brat than already a hero. Probably demands a salary...

Instead of a respectful fight between him and Capt, I could see Cap. America being offended by his Gen Z egoism,

Capt teaches him a serious lesson. With some serious ass beating. And some stern words.

Stark certainly does NOT leave him his drones.

reply

"Might still be recruited by Start, but more as an arrogant, selfish brat than already a hero. Probably demands a salary..."

I don't think a salary is an unreasonable request when a multi-billionaire recruits you to go fight a few super soldiers and an incredibly powerful witch.

Though, that spidey suit probably had millions in tech in it, so I guess Stark gets a pass there.

reply

To be fair, the actual comic What if Spider-Man's Uncle Ben had lived has May getting killed instead of Ben. Another What if comic "What if Spider-Man never became a crimefighter?" has Spider-Man catching the thief who would have killed Uncle Ben but only so he can get publicity. Leading him to using his powers to become a movie star instead of using them to fight villains. I maybe wrong but sadly I don't think they can do solo Spider-Man what if episode because of Sony owning the solo movie rights.

reply

There was a plot description of one of the episodes on IMDB that said vision merges with ultron. But it's gone now.

reply

Oh well. These things happen. Maybe next season.

reply

This past episode ended with a merged Vision/Ultron with the Infinity Stones. He only showed up in the last few seconds of the episode. That was probably where the rumor cane from.

reply

Yeah I seen that I was all like wuuuut

What if the MCU Hulk was as powerful as the comic book Hulk?

Sorry. I've been a Hulk fan since I was about ten years old (and that was a loooong time ago) and I'm a bit tired of him being used as just a foil in the movies.

Here are a couple of serious suggestions:

What if Frank Castle never lost his family?

What if Elektra had killed Bullseye instead?

reply

I agree regarding The Hulk. I wish they'd utilize him more. But he's a hard character to write. I'd like to see him run amok, and yet how do you do that in the watered-down world of Disney.

This What if...? series is based on MCU, and not Marvel comics. A Frank Castle or Elektra story would not be seen here.

reply

Seriously? There were three Punisher movies: in 1989, 2004, and 2008. There was a Daredevil movie in 2003 that featured Elektra and Bullseye (he even kills her in it like he did in Daredevil #181), and she was resurrected in her own movie two years later in 2005. Since they're featuring Howard the Duck, that means they're including those older Marvel movies in the MCU.

Frank Castle and Elektra are very much fair game for this series. And they could both make for good "What if. . . ?" stories.

reply

You're missing the point. This series is based off of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). It's based around the movies that Disney has put. Those Punisher movies you mention were not part of the MCU. I believe they were made by Lionsgate.

Punisher is too violent for the MCU.

reply

I think you're missing the point, actually. Howard the Duck is not part of the Disney MCU. By your logic, he shouldn't be in the series either--but he is.

reply

Sure. Okay. (geez...)

reply

Sadly, there won't likely be Punisher, Elektra, or Daredevil what ifs since they haven't been in the MCU.

reply

1. Good point about the salary being reasonable.

2. I like the Frank Castle one. Frank was already a bad ass before he lost his family.... What would he have done... Shield recruit?

reply

Maybe a Shield recruit, but they've established the fact that he has a very dark side to his personality, so I would guess something else. A super soldier government assassin a la the Winter Soldier, perhaps?

reply

Alternative Wakanda - which is populated by real Homo sapiens sapiens instead of human-like benign mutants. When humans have an edge they thrive and they inevitably expand.
So I'd like to see a What If about a despotic empire covering all of Africa and the Middle East. At the very least...
Essentially I'd love to see the Battle of Agincourt where English longbowmen have to fight vibranium armored African knights on rhinos.

reply

It did occur to me watching it, that it would make sense at least if, at some point in the past they had an empire and it went really badly for some reason. To explain why they were so isolationist.

But them as real players in the world, instead of having it both ways, ie small and peaceful, but strong and warrior like, while so offended by other people being waging wars... Like you said, not human, but human like.

reply

What if Tom Cruise had been cast as Iron Man ;)

reply

Either what if Spider-Man didn't become a crime fighter or what if Aunt May was was killed instead of Uncle Ben. But I don't think we can see that in this show because of the deal between Disney and Marvel.

I'd also like to see what if Punisher killed Daredevil and what if the Punisher had killed Spider-Man. But since those stories they came from haven't been adapted into the MCU we can't.

reply

Spider man NOT a crime fighter could be interesting. I could see him getting involved with the lawyer from the netflx shows trying to be allowed to remain a wrestler despite being superhuman.

That would be an interesting legal can of worms. Barring superhumans from sports. Hard to make a movie out of it, but a cool courtroom drama, maybe with Peter Parker coming to realize that he was wrong to fight regular people in competition.

It could grow into an interesting origin story...
