1st Episode is meh, 2nd one is Brilliant
I'm not much of a cartoon person. Honestly, I'm not a cartoon person at all. I just about never watch cartoons unless it's with my children, so I didn't even realize that "What If...?" was out until quite recently.
I tried to watch the first episode, but lost interest, and kind of zipped through and watched a bit here and there. I didn't bother to watch the end.
I wasn't going to watch the second episode, but I had half an hour to kill this morning, so I thought I'd see if it was any better, and boy was I surprised.
The second episode is everything the first isn't. It's cleverly written, and perfectly paced. The story scoots along, and it was immense fun seeing, or at least hearing, so many MCU favorites again; it was bittersweet hearing Boseman's voice.
The episode was funny at times, and touching at others. Most of all, it was intelligent. We saw what might have been had someone tried to reason with Thanos rather than physically challenge him. Even better, we got to see the Black Order unleashed in a way that we never really did in the films, and against Thanos to boot.
I'll give the third episode a chance based solely on how great the second episode was, despite my general disinterest in all things animated.
