I'm straight and it didn't make me uncomfortable, nor did it any of my straight friends who saw it. Your opening statement is not true.

Hetero guy, no problems here. Best film Gus Van Sant has made, one of Penns best performances, one of the best films the year it came out. It's like the type of film Oliver Stone would've made early in his career if he were gay.

i am a straight girl and loved this movie, and not that i did not have a problem with kissing scenes, i enjoyed them.
