Why is it called Knight and Day?
If their names aren't Knight or Day? I signed onto imdb expecting to see Tom Cruise as Steve Knight and Cameron Diaz as Sun Day. What is this crap!

shareI was just about to post the exact same thing. Whilst watching the film I was also expecting Cameron Diaz's last name to be revealed as "Day".
shareBefore he joined the CIA, Tom Cruise's character's last name was Knight. It was changed to Roy Miller when he became a secret agent and after the agency made it seem like he had been killed. This was so they could set up his new identity as Roy Miller. It's still a pun on the classic "night and day."
shareThe mailbox
shareSigh, everytime i come onto these boards i see tons of threads like these, why is this that, why does that mean this?
Then you have a bunch of people replying something completely that has nothing to do with why this would be that or something or another.
Anyway didnt read all pages just half of first, just hope somewhere someone actually says same as me so hope for human kind isnt entirely lost.
Warning, might need to use braincells for what comes next:
Knight: true family name of Roy Miller, seen on the mailbox at Roys parental home, also carried the zephyr around in a toy knight.
Day: At the end, June "kidnaps" Roy, away from the agency, so one could say June was a brand new day for Roy and just what he needed, not to mention she reunited him with his folks who thought he was dead. New day square.
Get it now? Does anyone pay attention while watching movies or am i really only one, im getting desperate.

His real last name is knight and you find out when June ends up at Roy's parents house and June introduces herself to Roy's mother and his mother Introduces herself as something Knight - sorry I didn't catch her first name and she also tells June his name is Matthew
As for day I think it has to do with him saying someday
I think it's to do with the perpetual running battery i.e. it runs night and day and the Knight is just play on words since he hides it in a toy knight. I was surprised how good the movie was albeit cliche ridden.
shareI'm sure someone already said it, but Roy's (Matthew) mom's name is Molly...Molly Knight.
shareTom Cruise is a diligent "white/dark knight" (white knight because he is a good guy, dark knight because he is a secret agent operating in a shady world), while Cameron Diaz is an innocent and oblivious "Doris Day" with a smile as bright as a sunny day. Moreover, their characters in this movie differ as night and day.
Furthermore:
Cruise --> crusader --> knight
Diaz --> dias (Spanish for "days") --> day
The toy knight, "Matthew Knight" and "some day" references were just thrown into the movie for the viewers who needed a tangible/spelled-out reason for the movie's title. But if you ask me this movie was always conceived as a Cruise/Diaz romantic comedy-action project in the simple old 1960s/1980s mold about two opposite characters who fall for eachother in the end, and in which the "knight" saves the "day".
(In other words, the title merely means to say: Cruise and Diaz are going to entertain you with a simple, old(-fashioned) but proven movie-formula, so sit back and enjoy.)

I agree except Diaz saves Cruise at the very end, by taking him out of the hospital. During the movie, she becomes like Knight even he said "You have skills.' wears shades (like him), drives like him, undresses him (like he did to her)and does his up and down scene, with the hands.
