Adam Driver Was A Huge Mistake

Not too long ago I raised the question, on this very site, as to whether Adam Driver was acceptable right here:-
https://moviechat.org/nm3485845/Adam-Driver/5e82323b7abcbe207aa83556/Is-Adam-Driver-Acceptable

And I would say to you good Sir that, no he most certainly is not acceptable and furthermore he is in fact unacceptable!

Whether this films is indeed utter sh-t or not (as seems to be strongly suggested) it was surely on a hiding to nothing anyway the moment it cast this horrible sucker up of negative energy as its lead.

What was Coppola possibly thinking? I mean, we get this nonsense big sell that this film was his "dream" for decades or whatever, so he finally gets it off the ground and casts this wet blanket? It really makes no sense...

Or indeed, about as much sense as why Adam Driver even is in the first place. How does he even exist?

And I don't mean exist per se before any wise guy cracks - I obviously mean in this world. And when I say world, before any wise cracks there either, I mean the world of show business...

Adam Driver - 64 wins & 137 nominations
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3485845/awards/

reply

LOL - Awards? Are you kidding?

Gweneth Paltrow has an Oscar.

Will f-cking Smith no less has an Oscar!!

I asked why, not confirmation that he does...

reply

Proof? We don't need no stinkin' proof!

reply

What exactly are you implying? This isn’t an Adam Driver problem. This movie was going to flop regardless of the lead actor.

reply

You've replied to my post replying to someone else who seemed to think acting awards was some kind of badge of honour / validation of acting ability.

I pointed out that Paltrow and Smith have laughable Oscars just to show how ridiculous that awards "yardstick" he was suggesting was...

reply

64 awards, retard. You seem to have "outrage derangement".

reply

You appear to have comprehension derangement...

Can't you read? You surely wouldn't have moronically parroted your previous "64 awards" (LOL 😂 what awards anyway?!) if you'd actually read what I said...

The film was very poorly written and no one could have delivered the dialogue properly.

I like Aubrey Plaza because she is funny and any movie I have seen her in she's very smooth. In this she sounded like Driver, as if they were both reading from cue cards dialogue they had never seen before.

Driver would be be good in something like military movies and so on. He has a very dry delivery that's not meant for a variety of films. So, there's that.

reply

Haven't seen it. Unlikely to anytime soon but I guess it will find it's way to Netflix at some point...

Aubrey Plaza is usually very dead pan, so I can imagine what you're saying re her delivery.

Re Driver's "very dry delivery", that's true - I think there was only one film I thought worked out for him with that and I'm pretty sure it was some very low key indie Sci-fi thing (can't remember the title?). It did fit with the character and mood of the film there rather than just being plain annoying...

reply

Plaza is deadpan when she's doing comedy but she's been in a variety of movies where she is acting like a realistic character and does a good job.

In this movie her and Driver sounded like they were reading from a book they just picked up.

What about all the accomplished filmmakers who have chosen to work with him? In addition to Coppola, there's Spike Lee, Steven Soderbergh, Michael Mann, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Jim Jarmusch, Terry Gilliam. Why is your subjective opinion of him as an actor better than theirs?

reply

Are you saying that your subjective opinion is based upon other people's opinions here? Because that's what it sounds like...

And again, as I replied to a previous poster:- I asked why, not confirmation that he does...

reply

I also don’t like Adam driver. Not only is he ugly as hell, but he’s super camp.

I prefer actors like Michael fassbender who at least have a bit of gravitas. But that was the least of this film’s problems, everything from the story, production/costume design, SFX, and script was atrocious.
