Another Southland Tales?

Ambitious sci-fi epic that runs away with itself and loses any connection to the audience? Sounds like it from reviews like this:

Christ, I hope not. That film was excruciating to get through.

At first I was thinking this would be closer to Beau Is Afraid, a movie I loved. But now I think you’re on the right track.

reply

Oh god, I hated Beau Is Afraid. Coppola please no.

reply

Fuck, please let it be better than Southland Tales

reply

Kermode utterly hated it, but he’s a Leftist ideologue who probably objected to Coppola casting ‘cancelled’ actors, he even makes a dig at John Voight’s sensible political statements. This actually makes Magalopolis more appealing… 🤔

reply

Kermod is a fucking pretentious beta male

reply

Sadly true

reply

hahahahahaha at the paranoid rightwingers who think a professional film critic would hate a great film based on some republican actors!

reply

Kermode isn’t a professional, he’s a frothing Left wing ideologue, remember?

reply

But imagine Roger Ebert reviewing Casino and saying “sure, this is a great movie, but James Woods is a rightwinger, so I give a 0/4 star rating”. Wouldn’t happened.

reply

Ebert wasn’t a frothing Left wing ideologue. Kermode is. 🤷‍♂️

reply

That is the vibe I got from the trailers.

reply

It's very Southland Tales-esque, but I hated this slightly less than that.

reply

I knew it. How would you review the film?
