So we're supposed to believe Mrs. Dempsey forgot what he looked like?

Or was he wearing his little birdie mask when he walked right up to her?

This was the most implausible part of this movie that pushes plausibility (re: this clown getting away with his brazen crimes) many times.

Sure, she was traumatized, shocked, etc. But no way she couldn't have given a sketch artist a description of his face.

Or how about tackling him, screaming her head off, and letting him take his chances killing or abducting her in broad daylight on the street with many neighbors as witnesses? (As a parent of a daughter myself, this is what I sure as hell would do...)

there was a sketch, though it's not very believable that he'd show his face

Yeah I thought that part was ridiculous. She said she didn't say anything because she was scared? No way. Not buying it.

Right after that scene, the film shows the sketch portrait of a man. So she did give his description. Since they didn't get the killer, we are led to believe that the sketch / Mrs. Dempsey's description wasn't good enough.

As for why she didn't tackle him or confront him, she explains that she was scared.
