These guys just got their lights cut off and they are purchasing expensive beers from a bar (around $3-$5 apiece), complaining about how they can't afford anything..
I know it's not that big of a deal but I know a lot of people that do stuff like this.. and it drives me crazy..
Like some others said, it's only a movie, but I am no stranger to people who are "broke" but still give in to their vices. Like my old roommate, who had trouble paying up when the bills and rent were due-- I even had to loan him money on occasion-- but had no problem dropping about $40 on beer and cigarettes every week.
Then again, that's why he's no longer my roommate.
Yeah some people act like kids and need instant gratification. I know a lot of people who bitch about money but allows get the latest droid, or will bbuy movies as soon as they come out and are full price.
My exroommate would buy magazines because he sat around most of the time at his job, so he'd buy a ton of video game magazines, especially imported ones from the UK because he said those were better. He finally got a second job on the weekends delivering pizzas, which didn't last long, he was obese and needed to rest a lot.
Most people who complain about money just spend it, it's not that they're broke they just can't save. "I deserve a new Xbox because I work so hard, I will just avoid the landlord until I can borrow money from my mom".
I've known people who maxed out their credit card every single month buying DVDs and collectibles, and then they couldn't afford to buy food. It's nuts. But it also makes me feel a lot better about blowing $10 on cheesecake or $5 on Sudoku books. At least I'm just wasting a little bit of money. I can still afford to get groceries or an oil change for my car. Or glasses, or a jacket, or whatever. At least my finances are just a little bit problematic, and not full-on idiotic. Hooray.

Well, they are alcoholics so you don't give up your addictions just because you can't pay your bills. But it all just feeds into their reality of making totally bad decisions all thru their lives.
Like why is this hot woman sharing a house with this troll boy-man?
I agree with you man. In reality, I think light, heat, rent, food and water should come before any sort of luxury. I know what you're saying, it's only 3-5 dollars for a beer (probably about 8 dollars since the increase in inflation since this movie came out) but when your as tight for cash as these guys, I every penny should go to the bear essentials.
But at their home they had no heat, water or power. At the Bar they had all of that for the price of a couple of beers, it is not a long term solution but it seems like a practical immediate solution to getting warm.
Well I think the reason people like that get in tough financial spots is because they're generally not good with their money. The movie showed that pretty well.
Also they have a car, they pay for the gas, wears expensive cloths...but stuff online. I am an Indian, but here in India we have kind of a joke about Americans that,In America even beggers drives a car.... no offence i love america and in india cars and gas is really very expensive .
