It's perfect as it is.
No reason to invent some twaddle just so it goes another season.
Use the money and work on another project.
If it can be great, then I say why not! However, I do agree with you.
But money? It’s funny, Netflix basically spends money like it’s going out of style. Not worrying about having numerous projects in development aside, them ordering another season/sequel to one of their popular shows or films is how they roll. That said, I think this series will be left as it is (we’ll see).
This was presented as a limited series. Similarly to Unorthodox, they covered the book.
I don't think any further seasons were ever planned.
The book sets Beth up for a continuation of her chess career.
The end of the book plays out like this; In two years she could be playing Borgov for the World Championship. She had to qualify first by winning the candidates match, but she could win it. A neutral place would be chosen, and she would meet Borgov, head to head, for a twenty-four-game match. She would be twenty-one then.
If they followed the Bobby Fischer story further they could have very interesting second season!

It was hugely successful. I doubt Netflix wouldn't order another season even if the story doesn't warrant it.
