Carrie's new found cash
I've seen this movie (and all the episodes a billion times) however I guess I keep missing how she is now able to buy an expensive bag for her assistant and the $300 pillow Samantha's pup humps. Anybody know?

shareI imagine she received a hefty salary working for vogue and she also wrote 3 books.
shareeven with all that money, why would you spend $300 on a pillow?
Why not? Sleeping is one of the most important things in life! A great pillow helps you rest well. I do have expensive pillows and it does make a difference for me, especially considering I am allergic to dustmites. People can use their money as they wish.
I like tea
The pillow was not for sleeping on, it was decorative.
shareWho cares? Good things cost money. When you have money to spend you are also helping the economy and that in turns creates more jobs, which also means that those who make objects are paid more fairly for their work. You are valuing people's work.
Seriously! Why so much self-righteousness?
I am just a girl who likes coffee and tea
No, I wasn't.
I was disagreeing with your statement above that it's to help sleep and good pillows to sleep on are worth the money and are needed. It wasn't for sleeping at all, it was decorative so your point above was moot.
I was confused because you used the word pillow, and the 300 dollars was what in Australia we call a cushion. In Australia the pillow is for your bed and what Carrie had would be a cushion. I think I clarified my point in my second point. My question remains: Why does that matter? You said that why would someone pay 300 dollars for it, and I asked you 'why not!'?
Good things cost money. There are cushions and cushions, and I, personally, am ready to pay for good work. I think we now pay too little for certain things, we should value manual work more.
Vulgarity is no substitute for Wit- Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham
We call it a cushion in the UK too, but it was what they say in the film.
I am what you would call 'well off' and can afford nice things, I would still never pay that amount for a cushion. The sellers see people coming.
I watched a documentary on Liberty's of London, the woman who sells cushions pretty much admitted to that fact and you can talk certain people into paying more.
As I said, stores see people coming. I used to work for a well known brand and it was known that the fabric they used was the same as cheaper stores, they just put a higher price tag on it.
It's crazy that she spent all that money and according to the second movie, the apartment basically just sits there unused.
shareWell, she never was one to be fiscally responsible.
shareShe is rich now. A published writer...lol
How come a writer for a newspaper writes a book and becomes famous in Paris???. Why was she famous? I could understand if she got famous in the Us, but Paris? She was relevant in Ny state. Only!
I know it's been a long time since you gave this respons, but whatever.
Why wouldn't she be famous overseas? SatC is a series/movie set in the states, In New York City. But iy is a big hit here in Europe. So why wouldn't a fun book about relasionships and friendsships sell in Europe no mather where it's set? If it's relatable it will sell.
I laughed ridiculously hard when she looked at a price tag on a new desk and said it was over priced. Her entire wardrobe is over priced and she complains about spending a little bit more money for something she uses every day for her career?!
shareActually, that aspect made sense to me...well, it didn't make "sense", but I've seen it play out in real life. I know a woman who spares no expense when making frivolous purchases, but will run the tires on her car until they are bald and have steel cords hanging out of them; apparently, buying tires isn't "fun" enough.
shareAre you all men or something??? ALL women rather (if they could) spend money on decor or clothes and shoes than tires!!! I was telling a guy friend of mine about this post and even HE knew that about women. (And no, he's not gay!) Geez! And if you all feel this way about extravagance, why would you even watch a show (or movie) like this?! If the show took place with Carrie and the girls shopping for tires and brake lines at Pep Boys, no one would've watched. Entertainment is often over the top. That's why it's entertaining. If I want to think about being fiscally practical and purchasing tires over expensive pillows - I wouldn't have to turn on the TV, I'd just call up my Father and listen to his rantings about "saving for the future".
Further, often people's endeavors (books, music albums, movie productions, etc...) are first more popular in foreign countries. One example comes to mind. The popular, and talented ( and sadly deceased) Tejano star Selena. She was born and raised in America but had wide success in Mexico LONG before anyone in her native country even knew who she was. It happens. More often than you realize.
Lastly, you'd be surprised how much $ successful authors make. And further, who knows, maybe a wealthy family member left her something in their will! Not EVERYTHING has to be spelled out in the plot. But regardless, again, it's entertainment people!!! Lighten up! I, for one, would love to drop $300 on a pillow. And someday- BY GOD - I will!!! Haha!
I think the problem a lot of viewer have is that no way Carrie could have afforded living in such a nice NYC apartment and have this giant designer wardrobe and a bad shoe fetish, plus all the fancy outings with girlfriends on a meager newspaper writer salary doing a weekly dating column. I believe that Miranda could have done it with her big lawyer career, or Samantha being a PR rep for NY celebrities, or even Charlotte trough her big divorce settlement, but Carrie? Becoming a successful enough writer to have a frivolous life style is very hard - very few people do it, and none of them are dating gurus. But I treat this show and movie as a fantasy, so $300 pillows don't offend me.
shareShe had a rent controlled apartment. The series showed many times that she was in dept, used credit cards.
shareShe's in the process of writing a book. She probably got an advance
