What exactly was behind Carrie and Big's new place that had MORE THAN ENOUGH room to build that huge closet?!?!

If I'm not mistaken, I think Carrie told the girls the space was coming out of the kitchen. I only remember her saying something like "what do I need the kitchen for? I keep sweaters in my oven."
