Might of been better without the singing?

I have to say the orginality and creativity behind this film is quite good. It's a shame it didn't seem to bother with the song writing at all. They just seemed to be singing the script! The film would be better if it was a mixture of talking, with actual memorable and enjoyable musical numbers (like the rocky horror picture show) or if they had just had the actors speak their lines rather than sing them...

I mean most of the time there wasn't even rhyming, it was just singing out their conversations. It was kind of boring. It's not like you could really sing along to this movie and there are any memorable songs, which is a mistake.

no no NO!

the stuff that you didnt like is Repo!

if you like RHPS so much then watch that.

go away troll

Whatever...i'm just stating what I think and if that makes me a troll I guess everyone else is too, or at least anyone that has anything bad to say about repo by your logic...

Ppl like you ruin discussion boards. I wasn't saying this is a terrible film and I am open to people's reasons for liking this film, but your blunt and dismissive reply contributes nothing, so maybe you should just go away.

Actually singing conversations is a staple of the OPERA format. And most Operatic arias are not held ito th rhyming format of most modern songs.

The format you are thinking of if the MUSICAL. And I love musicals. So many great ones exist.

But Repo, like Jesus Christ Superstar before it, is a ROCK OPERA. Meaning it has no real spoken words. Its all done in song, like an opera. But instead of using standard Operatic singing and classical stylings of music, they use Rock and other modern styles to tell the tale.

I didn't see anyoje complaining that Jesus Christ Superstar was entirely done without the spoken word or that Les Miserables was either.

Yea but those two actually have memorable and well written songs. As another thread has stated, they have not put any effort into the lyrics of the songs in this movie at all! I don't have any problem with something that is composed entirely of singing, but for this film it didn't work. That's just what I think.

The singing is this movie though. The one thing i hated about Rocky was the lack of songs.
This was so awesome though

I think it has many memorable songs. I love the soundtrack. Obviously there is your favorites and least favorites like most musicals. My favorites are Night Surgeon, Let The Monster Rise, Genetic Emancipation, Zydrate Anatomy, Testify (The Genetic Opera, At The Opera Tonight..

So I really don't know why you say the songs don't work or that there isn't any memorable songs. I guess it depends who you are. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the movie but I sure did! Except for the blood and gore, I watched it for the music really.

reply

Same to me. I don't mind the gore, because one of the best scenes, Thankless Job, would be missing then. But I love the music and the way it's done by the cast. And the moment ''Don't Blame My Cheeks'' is in your head all day long you know you're gonna sing along even the conversation.

Not at all. The movie would have been 10000000 times better without the comic book scenes. The movie would have flowed better, not drug its feet through the plot and would have felt a hell of a lot tighter and fun.

To each his own.

Fans ALWAYS thinl they can do something better then a professional. Nine Time out of Ten, they would suck at every aspect.

I am a professional.

And thats why you hang around here?

Professionals don't hang around chatting unless it's organised for them to do so. A true professional does not have the time.

I agree with the OP. The music in Repo is pretty useless. Apparently very little effort was put in; nothing is even slightly memorable or engaging. In all seriousness I could have composed a better soundtrack.

reply

I admit on first hearing nothing sticks. But its one of those things that just gnaws into your psyche and stays there. It just takes a while to do so.

No one likes Coffee the first time either.

Musically... anything with Anthony Head or Sarah Brightman in it is a pretty awesome song.

Night Surgeon
Chase The Morning
Chromaggia
Legal Assassin
Who Ordered Pizza?

All these are great things to listen to once they worm into your brain.

Absolutely agreed, ttrek. Apart from those the grooves of Zydrate Anatomy or Mark It Up are rather addictive. I didn't find it after the first watching as well, but from the second time on there's no cure anymore.

Some songs were cool but others were filled with jarring lyrics. I have no problem with lyrics being sung in this sort of movie but when they start to sing something that sounds good and then all of a sudden break the rhythm with a word that doesn't fit.. It just sounds rubbish and completely ruins the song/scene.

Someone else mentioned that the movie would have flowed better without the comic strips, I however feel that the movie would have flowed better if the lyrics to the songs were written to fit the music properly.

As I said though, some of the songs were quite good but nearly every one of them had its "jarring" moments that screwed it up.

Rock OPERA, my friend. OPERA.

I KIIND of aggree, i thought the film would be better if they didnt feel the need to have EVERYTHING made into a song.
If they had moments where they would have conversations that transitioned into the songs I would have preferred it.

There are songs in the film that i adored, but there are some times where the actors are singing there lines and it just doesnt flow quite the way it would had they just acted the scene normally.

reply

I just saw this for the first time, and I agree with you. The singing to me was more of a distraction than enjoyable.

The singing was the best part for me and I'm not a fan of musicals.
