I agree Rupert friend was outstanding as Albert. He should get more recognition.

I wonder what Prince Albert was really like though, do you think he was a lot like Rupert Friend's portrayal???

"Hey guys! Whoa, Big Gulps huh? All right! Well, see ya later!" Dumb & Dumber

reply

I wonder as well. All we know is that Queen Victoria was heard over heels in love with him in 20 years of marriage and apparently he satisfied her very well in bed. She also seemed to compare. All her children to him.

reply

Quite agreed! He looked like a dead ringer for the late Prince Consort (pardon the pun). I only saw him before as 'Orlando's lookalike from Pride and Prejudice' and I am resolved to now do penance for having such a low opinion on him. I felt that the chemistry between him and Ms.Blunt was incredible and he really REALLY made me believe that he was Prince Albert. Well played!!

"He portrayed a brilliantly quiet, fiery ambition in wanting to be with Victoria. I saw it through his eyes, particularly during the marriage proposal. He shared such tender, romantic chemistry with Blunt. I loved watching their dispute over the manner in which he chose to spoke, whilst in her presence. Despite this row, both expose their strong affection for one another beautifully. The scene of Victoria by his side after he was shot is a rather good testimony of that! Friend and Blunt consistently add an intriguing tone to Albert and Victoria... it felt like a natural glimpse into their lives, really"

Took the words right out of my mouth. Rupert Friend did a great job, showing how he was originally trained in everything about Victoria but did actually fall in love with her and she with him. I think my favorite scene was when he's going to England preparing to propose, but says that he can't actually propose, she has to ask him and his brother asks if he wants to - that look, it's just awesome!

As for those championing Melbourne... do a little research, I bet you won't think that he's better suited for Victoria than Albert.

You've got to be kidding, how can you girls like this ass? He was horrible in my eyes. Yes Rupert portrayed him well, and he was divine in the scenes when they kissed and made love, but then when he married her he began to become controlling, like he was the one in charge, and he treated melbourne disgustingly! I loved melbourne I felt really sorry for him, because from the looks of it he truly loved Victoria. I thought she was better suited to Mlebourne than Albert. Just something about Albert I didn't like!

About Lord Melbourne which may make you think different:

He was 40 years older than Victoria.

He was involved in a public sex scandal when a friend accused him of having an affair with his wife (1836).

Boyd Hilton records, "it is irrefutable that Melbourne's personal life was problematic. Spanking sessions with aristocratic ladies were harmless, not so the whippings administered to orphan girls taken into his household as objects of charity." (wikipedia)

Though he was kind and a friend of Victoria, he certainly used his friendship with The Queen to gain his/his parties advantages in politics- as the film shows. He was far from being the perfect match for Victoria... Albert on the other hand =was perfect.

Just my two cents.

Agreed! I also fell for Albert. I could understand why Victoria loved him so much.

This is not a signature.

I fancied the pants off Prince Albert's brother. Now, he was gorgeous!

reply

Same here, i liked his brother, he was in the black book, he's so hot!

reply

I loved absolutely everything about him except for his mustache. He was so charming and sweet. Rupert is pretty sexy in real life and did such a good job in this movie along with Emily. They both deserve some award nominations.

Good gawd, I thought Rupert was hott in Pride*Prejudice but of course he was Wickham so you had to hate him. But he was really great in Young Victoria, I do not how a German accent should sound but I think his was very great. I love when he spoke German when he wasn't supposed to and how he had a thick accent when speaking English.
