This movie deserves more than 5.4

I am very surprised that it didn't get at least an average rating of 6 or 6.5. This movie was enjoyable to watch from beginning to end and it really kept me in suspense. Too often a movie loses itself along the way or brings in other elements that take away from the focus (i.e a romance that takes away from the story). I am not surprised that Costner liked the script enough to get involved.

Most importantly, I could not say that I anticipated much of the story as it unravelled. Far too often I watch a movie and it becomes too obvious, even to the point of me filling in the words before they say them, this movie was not predictable in this way. I enjoyed the ending, until the bitter end it had me guessing.

Overall I think this one was a bit of a gem. I didn't even hear about this movie until I saw it on the store shelf and decided it might be worth a rental. It's good to see that well written movies still exist that rely on the classic elements of suspense and mystery. I could watch movies like this any day of the week, not in rare and small doses like say Avatar.

I actually expected this movie to get a lower rating on here. Not that I found it too bad. I rate it like 6/10.

I think it had POTENTIAL to be a great movie, but the little things (unrealistic - unpacking in one, to just plain stupid - burying the gun of all things) just messed it up. Plus they left too much to be interpreted by the viewer (the ending, the bath, etc)

This was good for Halloween Night...highly recommend it.

I think a 6.0 would be about right.

Kind of a cross between Pan's Labyrinth and Field of Dreams.

I liked it. I didn't have any expectations about it at all. I thought the person who played the daughter was a little lacking given that it was such a pivotal role. That's the one major thing I would have changed about the movie, but other than that, it was a fun ride.

I suspect the realtor will have to make a few more disclosures when selling the house the next time. I guess the thing to do is to have only males live on the land. Although, it seems only time will tell how the little beasties will respond to having another queen burned. Is there some point where they die off and stay dead?

reply

No, it doesn't.

I gave it a 1.1875 (1 3/16, for the mathematically challenged) for two reasons:

1- I'm even more pretentious than people that feel that a scale of one to ten isn't sufficient to rate what they've watched, and feel compelled to add their "point five". Get over yourselves, people, Siskel and Ebert got by with one or two thumbs up or down for how many years?

2- The movie was cr@p- unconvincing actors mired in a script which went from confusing to weird to idiotic, with a few side trips to boring, while adding nothing new to the genre.

I don't think the movie was terrible. I enjoyed it, it just had some really ridiculous parts.

i agree i thought it was very decent. gave it a 7.

I think a 5.4 is generous.
The movie was based on a short story and it shows.
Very thin through the middle, with a poor ending.
As has been stated previously, similar stories have been done many times and done better.
If it was 45 min with some commercials it would have been a good episode of "Supernatural"
Best I can say is I watched the whole thing.

Agreed. It had its suspenseful moments. It also has its flaws...like most every movie I've seen in my lifetime.
