He goes and lives life in this parallel world still inhabiting the body of Sean.. How does Sean feel about all of this? At what point does Christina realise he's a completely different person?
Please say I'm missing something because it seems a gaping plot hole or just incredibly selfish.
Ever see Quantom leap ? when sam jumps into another persons body, they jump into his. So in the end when the life support is turned off Sean dies. Same thing happens when colter returns to his body, sean is sent to oblivion.
This isnt quantum leap and there's no evidence that there any type of consciousness swap. Any notion that there is is you basing it on similar source materials rather than anything given in this movie.
Sean's feelings don't count seeing as technically e's dead. Although he didn't die in that particular instance, his spirit was replaced by someone else's and he was as good as dead. However, I get your point. Gylenhaal knows nothing of Sean's past and as Christina was somewhat close to Sean, she would find oddities in this "new Sean" However, love is blind and from how it ends, Christina is in love. She liked Sean before as shown when she expressed how long she had waited for him to request a date, then many times declaring her love for this "new Sean" So, yea she's blindsided, and he's intelligent, he could probably figure out excuses when she grew suspicious.
Or we can be more logical and simply say, they'll work it out as they go. The directors probably didn't explain this because it wasn't relevant to the main story. It would be a completely different movie that I think would probably be trash.
Similar to the film apmaking concept of quantum leap, the entire time we see Jake as Sean, only us as the audience sees that. Mirrors and reflections are the movies way of showing us what the people in the movie actually see. You see it in his reflection in the glass, the bathroom mirror. This is telling us, the audience, that while we see Jake the actor, he's really in Sean's body. Jake being the headline actor, it wouldn't make sense for us to see Sean's body and Jakes voice?
Other movies that use this film making technique: Ghost, patrtic swayze was in whoopie Goldberg but eventually you see Patrick interacting with his girl. Technically, we know he's whoopie but it wouldn't make sense seeing whoopie being passionate with swayzies girl.
Also the movie RIPD, they are disguised as something different. The dude was the dude in our view, but was a sexy blond to everyvery one else.
TV shows dead like me,we see the main actress but technically, the reapers did not look like the original actors.
Sean at the end still has Colter's consciousness in him. As you see the present Colter we see ismjake but his reflection, what the real world around him sees, is Sean's body.
Indeed. That we see Sean's reflection doesn't mean it's Sean's consciousness. It's his body, but Colton's consciousness.
BTW I was going to ask this same question, as a couple of minutes after the film ended it occurred to me he stole Sean's body and life. What's he going to do about Sean's family and friends?.
Great movie.
A question (sorry if it's dumb I'm sleepy), what if he doesn't die in any of the alternate realities he creates?. Like, if when he goes down from the train with the girl, he isn't hit by the train but managed to get out of the way. Can the military doing the "experiment" force him back?. In the reality where he is shot, does he go back to the original reality because he dies or they bring him back?.
