Movie should have ended at the freeze frame kiss

Forget about all the arguments of parallel universes and all that other mumbo jumbo. The freeze when they kiss and the camera pans to show everybody laughing was a very cinematic ending to the story. Maybe add in the part of Farminga in the locked room terminating the program with the scientist slamming on the door.

I don't care to discuss the plausibility of science in the film, or the ramifications of what it really means, yada yada yada.

The freeze frame kiss was a great moment. It was tragic and beautiful at the same time. I thought it was a more satisfying conclusion.

Overall I liked the movie and rated it 7/10. I had my second viewing today and am sticking with that rating.

Agreed 100%

Was a great ending at that point. The other ending was the definition of 'tagged on' to create a happy ending but somewhat ruined the point of the film

I agree, the "epilog" that followed the frozen kiss was not needed.

Hmmm let me think...

Just saw it and agree. What an emotional ending it would've been. I actually teared up. And may I add that I felt actually that he was very selfish with the actually ending. The man whose mind he's taken over is in all respects dead now.

reply

I agree. I cannot help but think that it is the studio that wanted this "... and they lived happily ever after" ending that seemed to drag on a bit. Add to that the question of what will happen to the being of the person that Gyllenhaal commandeered.

Spoiler!

Im the Alpha and the Omoxus. The Omoxus and the Omega

shut off your computer and go hide, or continue to run your hand over a blade and complain that you got cut.

OH SPOILER ALERT!

reply

Jimbo, TOTALLY agree with you.
The freezed laughing scene was so powerful and most emotional, the following scene with shutting off the life saving system would have been the perfect ending - everything after that made it worse and was completely unneseccary!
For me personaly, i keep the movie ended after the red power Off button, and so memorize a good, a special movie with a smart end...

ps. Sometimes less is more! ;)

reply

I also agree, that kiss would've made for a beautiful and tragic ending at the same time.

Those stupid last two minutes made me give this film a 7 only instead of an 8.

Who are they? And what do they want?

This movie wasn't very interesting to begin with - time travel could, and have been done way more interestingly in so many other movies.

However, this movie is a lot like 'Cypher', in that it _COULD_ have been a relatively interesting or even good movie, but the 'injected romance' and crappy ending ruined everything.

It's like many movies have a more artistic and vision-based ending in mind, but then greed sets in and 'the curse of test audiences' is summoned to ruin the movie so rich people can get richer.

Do movies exist so interesting stories can be told while teaching the audiences good life or moral lessons?

Do movies exist so masses can be kept asleep and rich people can get more money?

Which is it?

reply

Agreed.

The ending changes the overall gist of the film. If it ended with the kiss, it's an action movie with a tragic hero that makes us think about how we view death and regret.

With the way the movie actually ends, it feels more like an action movie that explores death and reality as we know it, and the potential to create other "dimensions".

I prefer the former. The film's parallel reality explanation and execution was shoddy at best. Why accentuate it with that ending?

By the way, what kind of name is 'source code' for a movie like this? It makes no sense to anyone that understands what 'source code' actually means.

Even 'The Matrix' makes more sense. I guess that's the thing they were trying for... 'Hey, let's do the same thing 'The Matrix' creators did - let's take an old computer programming lingo term and use it as the name of our movie!
