it was to remind me how magnificent this show was. I started to rewatch it, season one, episode one, and it is almost as magnificent as the first time I watched it. Disheartening in a way as I know it falls off a cliff after season four.
The first four seasons of GoT is the best television has to offer outside of Breaking Bad. I don't know about the hows and whys GoT fell off a cliff. I only know that it did. As far as House of Dragons...to me, it seems even worse than the last season of GoT, if that is even possible. The only mildly interesting character is Daemon, and if you think about it, he is just a watered down less interesting version of Ramsay Bolton.
Season 1 is easily my favorite. But yes, the first four seasons are solid. I don't actually mind seasons 5, 6 and 7 (though there is a noticeable drop in quality as the show progresses).
imo, season 2, 5 and 8 were the weakest seasons. Although, the last second saves in the latter seasons started to get ridiculous, I still liked season 6 and 7.
The ending really wasn't "that" bad in my view. It was just rushed and made it feel like it wasn't very well thought out. But I can live with the fact that ****SPOILER**** Bran is on the throne at the end. It was a 'just' way to end things. For the most part, I think people are mainly upset that GoT didn't have a heroes' ending. And that's understandable. We were all waiting for someone to rise up and be the hero and we all thought it was going to be Dany and when she went mad, it just pissed people off and nothing more.
****END SPOILER****
It is kind of funny that after so many years, people are still complaining about the ending. It just goes to show how much people liked GoT. It was quite epic and one of the best fantasy shows I've ever seen.
I am with you on seasons five and eight. Five is the worst of the series and season eight isn't far behind. However, I have to disagree with you on season two. It was when the battle for the throne really heated up and some of the best characters in the entire series got center stage and were fleshed out. Tywin, Cersei, Jaime, The Hound, Tyrion, Joffrey, and do you remember Daenerys surviving that fire and having her dragons hatch? Season two climaxes with the Battle for Blackwater Bay, one of the best episodes in the entire series IMO.
Blackwater Bay was an excellent episode. It made the other episodes feel kind of flat in comparison, which is why I consider S2 to be in the bottom 3. Its not the worst season though. I would just put it down as 3rd lowest ranked but still a pretty good season overall.
I did the same thing with rewatching Game of Thrones from the beginning & you couldn’t be more right.
Seasons 1-4 were/are so well done. From the writing, the pacing, the casting & acting etc etc.. Each episode left you wanting to see the next.
Season 5 is where it all starts to break apart, but at least Jon’s season 5 story makes it enjoyable. Then it’s all downhill from there. With each new season progressively being worse than the last.
Exact opposite of Season 1-4 where I feel each season is better than the last.
