Why were people surprised by Daenerys [Spoilers]

Why were people surprised by Daenerys' genocide of Kings Landing?

She always had it in her, no?

reply

I thought so.

She was getting increasingly ruthless and power mad as the show went on.

reply

She'd been ruthless and power hungry since season 2.

Although not completely power hungry, she saw ruling Westeros as her duty to her family and her nation, she wasnt motivated entirely by a lust for power. But ruthless? Oh yeah, she was ruthless from the moment she stopped feeling sorry for herself.

reply

I saw the potential from the beginning..So no, I wasn't surprised.
I just didn't know if they would go ahead with it since it seemed like it might be an unpopular choice.

But I was surprised in the way they choose to do it in rapid succession.
Nothing in the final season was given any depth or nuance. Sadly..

reply

Yes, an extra episode or two to let those final key moments play out a little longer would have made a great difference.

reply

I agree.

perhaps they could have not rushed things and went in to more detail

reply

What was surprising was how it unfolded
