How come when Sansa said "North will not kneel and will be independent" no one said "is that an option? we will do the same!!!"
Not even mentioning that bran is the male heir to the north throne so actually the king in the north would NOT have to kneel to himself.
It was ridiculous that the Prince of Dorne at least, didn't do the same damn thing. Dorne has been trying to get its independence back for centuries, and the North has not.
As for the other Five Kingdoms, Tyrion has presumably inherited the Westerlands, Bronn has the Reach, and Gendry has the Stormlands, and they're part of the new government and support the new king so they're in. And Robin Arryn and Edmure Tully aren't capable of much. For now, anyway. But if Bran lives for a few years they'll get their feet under them and have their own candidates for succession, which will mean a new War of Five Kings. Or six.
They got rid of the succession ... did not one notice that. They said no more sons of kings, they don't do too well ... kings would be elected by the lordly electoral college henceforth
shareI think that's his point. You are going to have those that will not relinquish that power easily. And it isn't hard to believe that the people will rally against being told by the Capital who will and will not rule the people. While we all see Bran as kind, it won't be hard to imagine someone unkind being on the throne at a later day.
Sometime we see Winterfell as a different environment cause we had such an inside view of it, but I assume that each Kingdom has similar characteristics to them. Can you imagine the north being told by the Capitol that Ned Stark's children weren't going to be allowed to rule after him? I imagine it doesn't go well...
The Game of Thrones is not just alive and well, its about to go into overdrive. You will have each Kingdom pushing to pull away from the Capital's decrees more and more, or you will see Dorne over throw King's Landing immediately while the rest of the country is in turmoil.

Well put, especially if they think they're going to elect a new king every time the old one dies, which means a massive struggle for power every time instead of a smooth transition. Betcha they go back to a hereditary monarchy after a couple of those, just for the smoother transition of power!

shareYes, the north being independent didn't make much sense. If Bran is the king of the other kingdoms then there was no reason for the north to secede.
shareThe North has displayed a political need to be independent. It may also be geographical - the North is probably the furthest kingdom away from the capitol in the South, with different cultural and practical transport and economic needs to the kingdoms of warmer climates.

shareIndeed. Dorne (The new Prince), the Iron Islands (Yara), and the Eyrie (Robin) would all want to be independent kingdoms as well, it's odd that they didn't speak up and say "hey, us too", especially after the devastating events over the last 5 years.
The Westerlands (Tyrion), The Riverlands (Edmure), The Reach (Bronn), and the Stormlands (Gendry) would probably remain tied to King's Landing.
