The white walkers are not menacing enough.
The silent automaton thing is not doing it for most people. These things have simply not been written to be compelling villains. Very sad.

shareNight King: "I try my best, man. Not easy when you have to drag these guys around through the snow."
;)
I have no problem with them and think they are menacing enough. The Hardhome scene demonstrated that. The mystery behind them as well just all adds to the threat. It's not as if they've been the only villains in the show we've had to rely on. We've had cunning villains, sadistic villains, violent villains. The WW are a bit different. They've just quietly gone about their business in the background as a deadly relentless evil that everyone dreads without knowing much about them.
shareAnd now we have boring villains. Yay.
Look, everything you said is true. They are sufficient for the purposes of the story. They are silent. They are patient. BUT they are BORING.
When the Night King glared at Jon Snow while raising all the corpses at Hardhome, that was about as close as he's ever come to engaging anyone. His version of gloating I guess. He didn't even look irritated when Dani's dragons were roasting his wights by the hundreds. It just drives home that these are creatures very different from man with different drives and priorities. Totally alien, despite the superficial similarity in appearance. That's where their menace really comes from. They're not thinking like a human enemy - you have no idea what their motives are. And those swarms of berserker dead are pretty scary too.
shareNope. I have plenty ideas as to their motivations, but that's beside the point.
I am aware that they are very different from humans. They have not been built up effectively for the purposes of audience enjoyment. Because we don't understand them very well at this stage, the lack of understanding should make them terrifying. Yet nobody is afraid of the NK who is not a character on this show. They're frankly a boring set of villains.
There are plenty of good theories regarding their goals and motives. Of course I've never read the books. Maybe they go into more detail there.
I get what you're saying though. The inability to understand whitewalker thinking would make them scary for someone actually in that world, but they don't exude much creep factor for the viewing audience. They're a horde of stone faced bad guys.
It's the new actor. He's alot less scary and cool looking then the new guy. He's kinda funny looking, especially his big wide nose. They should have kept the first actor.
shareZombies are inherently boring. Point taken. Move on; because zombies have ALWAYS been boring. They are dead: the ultimate null state. Hannah Arendt coined that resonating phrase, "the banality of evil." TRUE evil, DEAD evil, is boring as a tax audit.

It's a little over your head, don't worry. Aegon Targaryen to the recue!
shareI thought the undead army with the giants was scary as hell in the first episode. Now they have a ZOMBIE DRAGON that breathes frozen fire!!!! Who would want to come face to face with that!?

Are villains supposed to menacing looking? They look like royalty and different than the walkers. So mission accomplished with distinguishing them from their underlings. Also some of the best ones in literature and movies are opposite of it.
