Uncle benjen kenobi
Is that the most Convenient thing you've ever seen in television history?
shareNo. Braun saving Jamie was funnier.
shareShortest reunion ever
shareJust about, yeah.
For a minute there I really thought Jon was done for this time, when he made Daenerys take off without him. I thought he'd served the purpose he was brought back for and now he was going to die. But I should have known that his plot armor was too thick for him to be done in by a little thing like being dragged into a frozen lake while surrounded by thousands of walking dead men who are bent on killing him as his allies flew away without him.
And then when he climbed out of the lake, I thought "well, maybe this time", as he was still surrounded by thousands of walking dead men who are bent on killing him, and he was half-frozen, exhausted and too weak to escape on foot; I thought he'd try charging straight at the Night King like Jaime did with Daenerys, attempting to end the war then and there (of course failing and dying, because there's still another season to go and the Night King can't die that easily). But nope, now Benjen somehow manages to appear in the middle of all this with a horse to send him back to Eastwatch.
I still love this show, but... come on. It's all just a little too convenient now. Game of Thrones used to be the show where everybody dies, but now almost nobody dies anymore and all the fan favorites keep having these miraculous escapes from the jaws of death. I really think they shouldn't have made the show until Martin finished the books.
My understanding is that Martin pretty much told HBO and the writers how he was going to end the books so if something happened to him, they could finish the series.
shareYeah, they have the broad outlines, but they fill in the blanks themselves with their own writing, and it shows. It's quite different now from the early seasons. The show is less gritty than it once was (it's practically PG now), the characters are much less smart (Tyrion in particular has lost some of his famous wit, I've noticed), and things have been becoming less realistic, more cliched, and more fan-servicey. Still a great show, but it doesn't feel as much like George R. R. Martin's creation anymore.
shareI find it pretty funny that Uncle Benjen's main purpose over the course of seven seasons was to save Jon and then die. He could have easily hopped on that horse with Jon and rode together with him to Eastwatch...
shareeggsactly...
shareSame here aswell didnt he help brann at some point aswell though?
But he didnt go back with Jon, cause then they would have had to explain his story line...
I thought he said in season whichever it was that he can't go beyond the wall anymore. Could be wrong though.
shareYou're not wrong, but some people suspect
that Bran, by allowing the NK to touch him and then passing through the Wall, might undo the magical protection that kept out the White Walkers in the same way that he broke the protection of the Three-Eyed Raven's cave. So it's at least possible that the same loophole might have allowed Benjen to cross as well.
