I am not quite sure what to think of this character. When the show started years ago...I hated the guy for what he did to Bran. Then he did what did with Brienne and saved her from being raped and I began to look at him differently.
So I started to like the guy...and whenever he's in a scene I am glued to it. But there are still times when I flipping hate him so much for his devotion to Cersei.
And tonight...giving Lady Olenna that poison. That pissed me off like nobody's business.
I just wish he'd open his eyes and see his sister for the monster she is. Honestly...I think he does...but he loves her anyway.
Jaime is the reason, or rather Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is the reason I began watching this show. One thing about Nikolaj he showed tonight is that he's very multi-layered. He shows so much with so little. As for what happened with Olenna it had to happen. Olenna knew it almost when she plotted with Littlefinger to get rid of Joffrey. After what Cersei did to the Sept, Olenna knew her end was coming. It's not like she didn't know. Jaime knows deep inside that Cersei is bad, he just can't admit it to himself because if he does that, he has to admit he's bad because they were born from the same womb. If he judges Cersei harshly then he has to judge himself the same. I believe in the end that Jaime will do what he must to not only protect innocents, but the realm. He did once before and he'll do it again. Only this time there will be a higher cost.
Yeah he didn't look happy about that whatsoever. This is what I'm talking about! He knew Joffrey was a c**t as Lady Olenna said...but he still got pissed that someone killed his king...and his son. It's just very frustrating for me as a fan of Jaime Lannister because I loathed Joffrey and wanted him to die a thousand deaths. And there's my favorite character getting upset because someone admitted to murdering him!
"And tonight...giving Lady Olenna that poison. That pissed me off like nobody's business."
Well, to be honest, under the circumstances it was the best she could expect. At least it will be painless, an easier death than most of the people in this show get. Cersei wanted to do far worse to her, as Jaime described. I liked Olenna, and I'm glad she at least got a good death, still proud and dignified, not the Bolton-style death Cersei would have given her.
I think she prefers it this way anyway. Her family's gone, she's old, she's lost everything, she doesn't have anything left to live for.
Jaime is one of the more complex characters I've ever seen though, yeah. And he does know Cersei's a monster. I think he called her an evil woman, when he returned to King's Landing from captivity. I think he may turn on her at some point, but it's difficult to say.
Sorry, I know it sounds like a snob opinion, but it's just a fact. Game of Thrones is a great show and I love it which is why I'm here posting about it. Jaime is one of my favorite characters, and yes, he is complex. But most complex EVER, in all of cinema and TV, posted like this, in all caps? Sorry, you are entitled to your opinion but it's just not accurate.
Nah...it's not a fact...and that is just your opinion. Again you are proving to be just another internet poster amongst the thousands...if not millions who cannot tell the difference between their opinion and a fact. It is not a fact. You have an opinion...and I have mine...neither of them are "just a fact."
No, this one has a huge stake at being a fact: that one Jaime Lannister of Game of Thrones is most definitely NOT the deepest, most complex character in ALL of cinema (since the first images were filmed in 1890) and TV (since the first TV images were broadcast in 1927).
So, 127 years of cinema, 90 years of television, add the two and you have two freaking centuries plus 17 years, yep, 217 years, with hundreds of thousands of characters, likely millions, and you seriously think *this* one is the most complex EVER?
I know very well the difference between fact and opinion, but when the opinion is so preposterous, it is very close to a fact that the opinion is not accurate.
I'm sorry, I didn't want to come at you with all stones, but if you post something so incredibly short-sighted, don't be surprised that others find it... well, incredibly short-sighted.
Sounds like you need to see more films and TV series...
I'll give you just one example: if you have an opportunity to watch Krzysztof Kieślowski's 10-chapter TV series Dekalog, and you don't come back here and confess that pretty much every main character in every chapter is way more complex than Jamie, I don't know what else to tell you.
Jamie is the most complex character in ALL of film and TV EVER??? Seriously??? Unbelievable...
----------
If you come here and you say that in your *opinion* the Earth is flat, I'll tell you that it is a fact that your opinion is inaccurate.
He never stated it as a fact. He simply said that it's the most complex character that he has ever seen in a TV series or movie. That opinion is certainly subject to change.
Thank you LennyNero. Thank you indeed. He seems to have forgotten that I am entitled to my opinion even when I spelled it out to him. I never said it was a fact that he was the most complex character, I said he was the most complex character I have EVER seen.
But whatever...again just a typical internet poster.
I'm thankful for being "typical" (in your eyes) rather than limited, naive, inexperienced (as a movie/show viewer) and short-sighted, all things I'm not.
In my opinion Theon Greyjoy is more complex character than Jaime. We don't see him as much lately, so many people have forgotten what deep changes the character has gone through and how well the actor played it.
If Lady Olenna was smart she should've burnt every grain to the ground and used all the food supplies as weapons. But she did say she had little imagination, so one can only wish.
Come to think of it, I wonder if she provided her food supplies to Daenerys. It's possible at least. Daenerys has to be getting food from somewhere to feed her army, and Dragonstone isn't exactly rich in farmland (they can at least fish there, but that's not enough).
Jaimie's character as depicted on the show is a severe (and disappointing) departure from the character depicted in the later books. Early eps portrayed him perfectly, but as the show runners changed the narrative, they also fuched with his story line. Some storyline changes I've understood and even agreed with...just not the king slayer (oath keeper)...some of the best chapters written were Jaimie's...
One of the great things about GoT is the multifaceted characterization of almost every single player. Jaime is one of the best examples. His time with Brienne and the loss of his hand changed him for the better. I certainly have more respect for him these days than I do for Randall Tarly, whose high honor and faithfulness to House Tyrell was apparently just a negotiating tactic. (To say nothing of his shameful treatment of Sam.)
Also the actors who play Varys and The Hound. I could swear I heard the voice of Sandor Clegane as a narrator in something recently. Might have been a commercial.
I love Varys' voice. It's great for someone like him, the mysterious spymaster with the oblique nature who knows everyone's secrets but whom nobody quite knows if they can trust. He was really well-cast.
Funny enough, Vary's voice should have been high-pitched because he was castrated as a child. The same is true of the Unsullied.
But I suppose we can just suspend disbelief and think that in that society (which is actually on another planet) there was some biological difference that prevented it from being so.
I think the Unsullied might get castrated after puberty. Their muscular development would not be as big and strong if they got castrated before puberty. Hormones play a big role in physical development, and they want strong warriors so it would make more sense to do it after their growth spurt.
Varys has the more effeminate, soft-bodied look of a man castrated before puberty.
»But I suppose we can just suspend disbelief and think that in that society (which is actually on another planet) there was some biological difference that prevented it from being so.«
I agree.
Moreover, we should be thankful for this "artistic freedom". Imagine they had forced Conleth Hill to speak in a high-pitched voice or had pitched it up digitally – it would’ve been such a waste!
you know who else had a great voice?
Roose Bolton.
He was an absolute shit, but i loved every scene with him and was sad when they killed him off, because that actor had just a magnificent classically trained stage voice. Like on a par with Patrick Stewart.
I'd love to see a Shakespeare play with Randall and Roose (the actors) in it.
Jerome Flynn who plays Bronn used to have a singing duo with Robson Green, another British actor who was in several Tv series ( Touching Evil, Wire in the blood, etc).
They are both primarily known as actors but they also had some music albums.
I have not seen that. I pressed your link and I see it has the woman from High Fidelity. I like her a lot too. I always wondered where she disappeared to. I'll try to find Eclipse. Thank you for the recommendation.
I used to work in a video store, so I tend to come up with nerdy suggestions a lot of the time. That film was also set in Cobh (love that town, so I was extra pleased upon watching the film - not only Ciarán Hinds but pretty Cobh!!!)
Oh and before I forget to mention, it's more of a drama with a supernatural tinge to it than a horror. Sometimes things get misclassified.
I've never been to Cork, sadly. I almost made it there last September but I was staying with a girlfriend in Kerry and we just ran out of time. My parents were from Ireland. My father was from Wexford and my mother was from Mayo. I think that's why I like the looks of Ciarán Hinds, he looks so Irish to me. I miss the video store! It was so cool to have all the movies out in front of you and seeing what had just come out. Now, movies come and go and I haven't heard of half of them and I miss so much. Admittedly, I have a million times better access through streaming but still, I wish the video store was around.
I can tell you the death of a video store is depressing. At the end it, I was kind of glad it closed down as the owners had given up at least 3 years prior to actual store closure, and it showed in the quality of films they'd bring in. Oh my god.
I escape to Ireland as often as I can. I'm lucky that there's cheap flights there as it's the only country I feel comfortable in. And they like me too!! Always trying to claim me as one of their own. Not that I'm positive I'm not...(not as if family members never lied to one another about affairs, and Irishmen do get around.. LOL)
I thought you must be Irish because of your username. Sidhe? I always make everyone Irish and my own age! Bad habit! Also, privacy is a consideration on these websites! So sorry if I asked too much! I love Ireland too. It's a very different country now than when I was growing up. I loved it then too but it is a lot more prosperous today.
Ciaran Hinds also did what I think was one of the best portrayals of Julius Caesar, in the Rome series. You probably know that, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. I like him as an actor.
I LOVED that series Rome. I wanted it to keep going, even though I know what happened in the real life historical story but I wanted to see that show tell the story.
He knows what she is, but he also believes you can't choose the ones you love. She's a monster to others, but not to him. I think if that ever changes, it will be what makes him turn on her. And Euron is pushing those buttons, so at least 1 of the 3 will have to die soon.
I like Jamie but the problem is that it's not credible that he is in love with Cersei. So when those love scenes happen, the character loses credibility.
I felt like that too in the last scene they were in bed together. It doesn't feel genuine. Maybe we're supposed to feel like that because he'll eventually betray her.
What?!? They have three kids together and are freaking twins! Unless you never believed that they were in love to begin with, then I don't see how you arrived at that conclusion.
He always said he wasn't the brain of the family and he's been proving that tenfold this season.
This moron actually believes that Cersei will be all peace and rainbows once "all her enemies are gone" lol. What a dumbass.
I pitied him at some point but this season, his character breeds nothing but contempt.
I already feel bad for Lena Headey for how boring her character has become but I was hoping Coster-Waldau would be given better material. He's doing his best with what he is given though.
Still, his contained anger when he learned that Olenna killed his little boy was pretty funny considering it was always kinda obvious who had done it, and the fact that Joffrey was worse than the King he shanked so I really have a hard time seeing what he's so upset about.
I guess it's just a matter of family pride for Jaime....I guess. He knew that Joffrey was a c**t(sorry)...but the show used that word...Lady Olenna used that word...and she was right! No way in hell did Jaime not know what kind of person Joffrey was...and yes...it is really difficult to feel anything for him when he blindly just goes along with all of this evilness when he knows better. Brienne at least can call him out on it and remind him that he's supposed to be a man of honor. He seems to forget that.
I'm not pissed off with his killing of Olenna, as I feel Olenna got off pretty mercifully and painlessly, plus she was able to give them one last sting.
And I don't think Jamie will turn on Cersei until the last minute when he will kill her himself.
Third, although his character arch is interesting, I honestly can never forget what he did to 9 year old Bran. I have a hard time relating a guy who pushes a 9 year old off a tower with this new Jamie character tbh.
LOL. But it would really be a slap to Cersei's face if Jamie ends up killing her no? That's what she deserves, to have the one person alive she loves most turn on her. It would be a great way to end her character.
Do you remember I think it was season 2 or 3...hell I can't remember exactly...but Tyrion threatened Cersei and said something like "You will know the debt is paid."? He never made good on that threat. They used it against him in his trial for Joffrey's murder...but Tyrion was innocent of that.
You know what? I'm going to marathon the show from season 1 up. My memory is so hazy about so many things but yeah I remember vaguely him making such a threat on her.
Ha! There's so much going on with this show...it's extremely difficult to keep things straight. I just watched Tyrion's trial the other day and that's how I remember that much of it.
