Were Targaryens midgets?

Considering how short Jon Snow and Daenerys' actors are, and those theories about Tyrion being a Targaryen, what if they cast Kit Harrington and Emilia Clarke on purpose because they were short to hint at Jons true identity?

In an earlier season Tywin explains to Joffrey that over time the dragons shrunk in size until the last dragon was no bigger than an apple. Maybe too, the Targaryens shrunk over time.

Also as a stroke of luck, to emphasize Jon Snows different parentage, all the Stark actors grew up to be tall, minus Arya but this fits in with the book where Arya felt different because she wasn't pretty like Sansa and secretly feared she was a bastard too which is why she was closer to Jon.

How cool would it be to have your own apple-sized dragon? He could light cigars and cook up a steak for you.

On your question, Targs weren't midgets. They are described as very attractive with platinum blonde hair and violet eyes.

reply

Yeah, but your darling little house-dragon would set fire to your carpet while it slept! And what kind of poop does a dragon produce? Would it eat through the floorboards if you failed to housetrain it properly?

Anyway, the height of the Targaryans was never discussed in the books, except Prince Rheagar the paragon might have been described as tall. I think Snow was described as tall (and "horse-faced"), but Dany's height was never discussed, but then she was 13 when the books opened and wouldn't have been at her full adult height anyway.

Short is good, says this five-footer.

It's important to housebreak your little dragon early on. Litter boxes with lots of sand is recommended. Your little critter will sleep safe in its own flame proof bed, and if you'd like a cuddle with it at night, flame repellant bedding is available for a nominal fee, though the yearly insurance can get you.

»I think Snow was described as tall (and "horse-faced")«

Huh?
Wasn’t Arya called »horse-face« in the book? That’s the way I remember it, but I’m not sure about it…

reply

In the books, the Starks in general were described as "horse-faced", including Ned, Arya, and Jon for sure. And probably Robb and Benjen as well, Sansa took after her mother and was described as beautiful rather than equine.

And incidentally, if anyone likes the idea of having a little dragon around the house, I urge you to read "Guards, Guards", by Terry Pratchett. An enchanting book, followed by many more enchanting books!

reply

Thank you for clearing that up!

At least I wasn’t wrong about Arya being horse-faced, only forgot about the other ones.
And boy am I glad that they changed this in the TV show! ;-)

reply

Well, I can't say the Starks on the TV show have a lot of family resemblance, but they did look for good actors rather than horse faces.
