I'm surprised people don't like this

I just watched Salt for the first time and really enjoyed it. I thought it was well written and full of action. I was so surprised to see quite a bit of dislike on here. Maybe i'm easily pleased?

It's because it's not a muscle-brained wooden ham who couldn't deliver a line to save their lives in the lead. The film's great for what it is and Jolie convinces me she could actually do what she does in it.

Can't wait to see the sequel! Cheers gtbarker.

The role was originally intended for Tom Cruise! When he declined (or wasn't available) they simply changed the gender of the character. I thought it was quite good.

Tom Cruise is a smart man though, he doesn't make those types of films. Secondly, it was re-written for Angelina in mind, exclusively. So it's not like they just took the name Edward Salt and change it to Evelyn Salt and called it a day, everything else remained the same. They essentially rewrote the entire movie with Angelina in mind.

Funny...as I was watching this crap, Tom Cruise came to mind. Sorry, I like Jolie, but for anyone to take a movie like this seriously, is beyond me. This thin, well trained woman, knocking Bodyguards in groups single handedly, is something for very young teenagers to grasp..and what does that say about our agents...are they that naive, incompetent? This concept is showing that the Video Games method has invaded our beloved movie industry...finally. The producers know who are going to enjoy this type of movie. Oh, like they say "for the good ole' days of real movies."

reply

Kinda off-topic but... I saw this movie a few years back, and also knew of that tidbit about Tom Cruise being first choice, but it dawned on me JUST NOW how Cruise would've approached the stunt work this movie required given his penchant for doing his own stunts. Those leaps between trucks and cars across the interchange come to mind. 😨

no, you're just brainwashed by western movies and its just another film to you

to me yes its just another film but another 'american propaganda' film

"oh no the russians"

for a country (america) that always preaches peace its always blowing up peoples countries or implying everyone with a foreign accent (russian, asian) are evil communist b*stards

you think other countries like UK or australia aren't babbling on about "commies"? its from many years of old american tv shows and movies

communism is no better or worse then capitalism, just another ideology to live by, even michael more had a a film about the evils of capitalism

in anycase you may go "no its not, thats not what the films about"

sure it is, its just using the "no its not ALL russians just a small group who want the old russian soviet to exist when it was powerful"

SAME DEAL, just less direct about how evil russians are, its just saying are "specfic" group are responsible

and here come the yanks to save the day...whoopy

same ol' garbage from hollywood and you see it in video games like COD or the tablet/smartphone game "modern warfare"

where the general story of the game is that russians, north koreans etc are making some terrorist group...come on be original for once

reply

I don't understand the hate for this movie, but I loved it.

reply

Evelyn Salt saves the day and she was a Russian, so no the 'Yanks' don't save the day.

You are surprised??? Seriously, who watches movies like this? It's pathetically rediculous and I hope that director will never attempt to make a movie again. Gave a 2 althought this movie should have a negative score. With a budget of over a $100.000.000 ... just feel sorry

I exist.

reply

Plenty of people do and if this is only worth a 2 then what would you give a film like Troll 2?

reply

Troll 2 wasn't made to be taken seriously. Salt is. Salt fails whereas Troll 2 has a cult following for uber cheesyness and celebrating silliness. Salt wants to be taken seriously and fails because of it's plot-holes and lack of acting talent - I'm looking at you Angelina - to name a couple of serious shortcomings. Troll 2 and Salt cannot be compared, they're not even close to being the same genre or anything. They're both movies, yes, they're both failures, yes. But Troll is celebrated for that fact where Salt is not.

I think a lot of it has to do with people just don't like Angelina Jolie.. Plus I think people just have a hard time believing that a skinny white chick can take down 200 pound men..

^^This, pretty much.

Zoe Saldana was also criticized for being too skinny to be a kick-ass assassin, but Zoe's character, Cataleya wasn't really dong much ass-kicking. She only hit two people dead on, one being a knock out that anyone could do, and the other being in a fight where she was getting her ass kicked. She only won by attacking the man with her gun. The other times, she was using her gun to shoot, and used bombs.

It's so ironic that Ozzy Ozbourne, the Prince Of Darkness, is so damn adorable.
