I mean I know not many people have had a chance to see this, but I am kind of surprised by the 5.1 rating. The trailer looks good to me. Can anyone who has seen this weigh in?

shareGreat question. I loved the movie but it was intense. I would not call it a comedy at all. Some eople that have never been abused and who don't understand abuse won't "get it" and they will say it is bad. Also, if the movie strikes too close to home for some people, pointing out something in themselves they want to keep hidden, they might say it's bad too.
It's like politics. Politicians who tell the truth never get elected. Movies that tell the truth like this one does get a significant number of people who will vote it down.
As of this writing, it's a 6.4. On IMDB that is a rather high rating. There are a lot of people that think anything they don't like is crap, rather than actually evaluating the style, content, and other aspects of anything perhaps especially a film, they will just give it a 1-3, even if it is technically a good film. Then there are the others that will love a film even if it is horrible(probably me) and give it a 8-10, even if it isn't technically a great film. I think somewhere in the middle are people who will rate a film fairly and accurately I hope. In any case, my opinion from looking at film rankings anything over a 6 is probably a goodish movie or at least it shows the movie has been well received. Anything higher than that practically makes it a must see film.
My personal opinion on this movie is I don't know if I like it or not. I liked a lot of aspects of the movie, the acting was very good. The directing was even better a lot of the shots of the actors made me laugh out loud. The writing was in places excellent and in others sort of meh. The middle of the movie and until the last 5 minutes or so were the strongest in terms of writing. The last couple of minutes and the first couple of minutes were the weakest. So, the bulk of the writing was excellent, so I gave the film overall a high score. The problem as I see it for the writer is getting the attention of the audience and not blowing it at the end with a cliche.
Anyway for the people who really loved this movie be happy with a 6.4 it's a little low for it in my opinion, but check out other movie scores and you will see it's not that bad. As for people who didn't get it, whatever.
