This film starts off so well. The whole Vietnam War movie genre was ripe for sending up. How many times have you seen choppers flying into a combat zone with a golden oldie on the soundtrack? It never quite matches up to that amazing sequence.
shareIt probably suffers from too many characters, I don't think Matthew McConaughey was needed and Brandon T Jackson's overacting ruined every scene he was in. Apart from that, it's probably the best comedy of the 2000s even though it owes a lot to the Three Amigos (1986). It just hits all the right notes - story, setting, dialogue. Downey Jr owns this film.
