I've seen season 1, and am watching season 2 right now.
its one of the most boring shows I've seen for a while, IMDB lists in the genre section that its a Comedy, I have not laughed once and I think I've got a pretty good sense of humor but this show is NOT funny!!! the concept for the show was good, reminds me of Dead Like Me (which is a much better show) but it just gets too boring too easily. the characters aren't likeable, they are often annoying like the blonde chick and the others are just meh, nothing special. I heard so much buzz about this I thought to check it out, but see no good qualities in this show. like dead like me, it repeats itself but at least that show is more entertaining. when I watched the first ep, I had no idea it was set out like a fairy tale which annoys me cause it kinda looks like they are aiming it at kids or something even though it deals with death. the narrator is damn annoying, he seems to explain things to the viewer that we can figure out for ourselves, "Ned, walks in the room and sits down" - I made that up but its a lot like that and sometimes I just go "duh"
Im real glad it got axed!! is there anyone out there who hates it too? cause I was real surprised that there was so many positive posts here.

Recently watched season one on DVD, and was wondering the exact same thing. Everyone is waxing poetic about how the network canceled it and I can understand why. The show was aesthetically pleasing, in terms of color palate used, set and costume design. and there were always nice little details, about characters sometimes, they were outweighted a lot of flaws in this show.
First off, the concept didn't really work for an ongoing TV series and would have been better suited to a made for TV movie, or show with a limited number of episodes. There are only so many times where they can use the usual formula, of over the top murder, Ned touches victim, who gives a clue, but doesn't last long enough to say who it is, the crew solves the mystery. After awhile the formula just got dull. The character of the sniffer played by Paul Reubens helped for the episodes he was on, and discovering Chuck's secret, but they never explored that path again. They also never went into other details about Ned's powers, where they came from, further ramifications of bringing people back from the dead, can he eat meat? The show just stuck to its formula.
Second off, the characters were just annoying. Regarding the show's main pairing, Ned/Chuck, the two actors had zero chemistry, even though they were supposed to be soul mates, so anything that pertained to how in love they were, was just dull. Kristen Chenowith's sole function as the jealous waitress waiting for Chuck's affection got dull after awhile. And Emmerson's direction with his long lost daughter was too soapy and cliche.
Totally agree. I've been watching this show on Netflix, and continued to the 2nd season despite the redundancy, because I thought the show had potential. But there's only so much cheesy repetition a show should have.
I too grew tired of the Ned/Chuck pairing. I didn't see the chemistry; they seemed more like siblings to me. All the sweetness even after Chuck lied & brought here father back to life, seemed unrealistic & altogether boring. They definitely should have spiced it up a bit, and added more conflict, to get the extra viewers they needed.
Lol, I just really loved Olive. An amazing actor, loved it when she sang too. This series was meant to be a fanasy world. Many people do not like fantasy, many are offended by the lack of detailing an afterlife (I figure because the only place that ever proves an after life is in stories, so when a story fails to nod at a religion then it is in a way denying a faith) But this is the place to complain about things or rant about them. I love to post on the BSG board on how horrid the series was, or on the Eureka board on how great it was during the first few seasons, and now how horrid it is...but to be honest I liked the series so much I started complaining when it went bad, and now almost try to avoid the board or new episodes so I can imagine series 3 and 4 never happened.
Pushing Daisies was absolute gold. Dead Like Me on the otherhand was a mixed bag. Some parts were great, some parts were horrible. One of my main problems with the series was that they never explored the concept of life after death all that much. For a series about such a thing, they really missed a great opportunity to speculate.
Lol, avoid life after death to avoid offending people, that was why it was so good. Unless you make up a completely original religion then I would avoid it.
I have to agree with moviefreak1982. I’m a fan of Kristin Chenoweth and came across this show on Netflix yesterday. I watched all of season 1 and the first 2 episodes of season 2, and I just don’t care to watch the rest. The show has nothing going for itself. It’s the same thing every episode, and I’m only reminded of that fact by the opening review which continues to basically only show clips from the pilot episode. I feel like I could skip a good 5 episodes and not have missed a single important detail, and I’m sorry... but that’s not good writing. I find myself bored during episodes, checking how much longer until the episode is over or occupying myself with other things online. I got through half of the series and I don’t think I can will myself to continue on through the second half... which is kinda sad since there’s only 22 episodes. And I, too, can’t recall having laughed once during those 11 episodes I watched, which is a bit of a problem for a comedy series. Oh well.
Because it is an aquired taste. It will not appeal to everyone, and if it makes you feel any better people that love this show tend to get tired really fast of the standard crap coming out of hollywood.
It is strange and quirky, but one of the most unique programs to come out of hollywood in years.
Clearly, its whimsy and quirkiness are unappealing to you. NBD, go watch something else, it's not something anyone could explain.
I suspect you're rather a literal-minded sort, and I don't mean that in a negative way... on the "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" spectrum, you're all the way over on the MM side of things, is my guess. That's speculation, and, if correct, you might work on that, but that's only my own attitude towards getting too locked into one viewpoint.
I don't agree that PD was a bad show.. but questioning someone's intelligence.. or they must not get it.. can't it just be the show just does not appeal to them? For 8 years 2 and a 1/2 men was one of the top sitcoms on tv. And i love charlie sheen and cryer.. but the show just felt very groan worthy. I stopped watching. It wasn't my bag.
I started watching PD mostly cause of Fuller's Dead Like Me which felt a bit muddled in season 2.. PD i will admit the whole fantasy thing is off putting at first.. cause its not what other shows do. Also the vibrant palatte, musical sequences.. its a very odd duck. I wil admit i watched it over a couple days, so the formula can wear on you.. but look at any procedural.. same setup/resolution.. for the most part.
I was a bit sad as i was enjoying the Randy Man character..
I get it,it's different.I don't hate any form of T.V.entertainment even though some is really bad.PD was fun and I enjoyed it.Some of the best things in life are acquired tastes.
