How did you find the movie?

I must say I was a bit disappointed. I have seen and actually own almost every Almodovar movie and this one just didn't do much for me at all. The technical movie-making itself was brillant; just couldn't get into the story. Still better than 98% of Hollywood movies though.
shareJust saw it on Blu-ray. It's a brilliant film, gorgeously lighted and photographed, and with a cast of wonderful Spanish actors. It' has mystery, intrigue, romance, movie-making, and, as with all Almodovar films, great characters and a lot of humor along with the pathos. This is cinema at its best and should not be missed by anyone who appreciates fine films.
shareI have always been a fan of Almodovar..this one was just ok...a bit to scrambled...alot of the scenes could have been left out..can't wait for the next one!!
shareI've seen practically every film directed by Almodóvar (with the exception of a couple of his earliest films).
IMO "Los abrazos rotos" represents Almodóvar at the peak of his powers as a filmmaker. Each frame is masterfully composed. However the story is not as compelling as his previous films. It is subtler, though. 'Broken Embraces' is interesting and surely better than the best films of lesser directors; Nevertheless it lacks the drama, suspense, and dark sense of humour found in movies like Carne trémula (Live Flesh), Hable con ella (Talk to Her), Todo sobre mi madre (All About My Mother) and La mala educación (Bad Education). The latter IMO his boldest and finest film so far.
In short it's a wonderfully crafted film (the superb cinematography by Rodrigo Prieto deserves to be praised as well), but falls short from the greatness achieved by his previous films. It's good but not great.
7/10

It annoys me when movies dont answer all the questions. If I wanted to be creative and come up with my own answers I would write my own movie or book.
shareI've seen it twice in the last 2 months. Frankly I thought it was a beautiful love letter to cinema.. The story is just a pretense to introduce the viewer to a passionate declaration of love of a 60 year old lover of the greatest visua expression. All the elements were there... the homage to the great Masters, Bunuel (though hints of both Belle du Jour and Viridiana) Rossellini, Malle, the omni-present Douglas Sirk... but apart the direct film mentions, Almodover tells to all of us film lovers that cinema is the other side of the coin of life.It is the medium where life can be mirrored, but even more that that, life and love can be slowed down to frame-by-frame, life can be re-edited to use only the best takes, because a film needs to be finished ..even if blindly. This is a film to stand next to other love letters of the past such as "Day for Night", "Contempt" and "Otto e mezzo". Beyond the intricacy of the story, the narrative layers, lies a simple and pure love for cinema.
shareI liked this film even more than Almodovar's previous "Volver". I found this more powerful, both visually and emotionally
